Hi , I have a 2009 Bonneville, while locking it up yesterday the steering lock key snapped, leaving a piece still in the lock ! I guess I will have to drill it out, but this will make the lock useless. Has anyone any suggestions to remove the offending bit ? Cheers........
Could you not apply a little bit of glue to the other half of the key and put it back into the lock.....might grip the broken piece enough to pull it out. Or perhaps a magnet or tweezers might be able to get in to pull the broken bit out.
Can't be the first time, worth droppin by a friendly dealer mechanic and ask how do yer get it out and how do yer put new lock in, or do as yer say, but I'd ask someone who works on Triumphs every day first, there may a simple way of pulling barrel out. Good luck. Other good dealer mechanics should have come across this. Can ye r email support from Triumph? Dunno never done it, maybe worth a go.
Hello and thanks for your comments. I will give the tweezer ( or thin long nose pliers ) a go first, but if not then will try my nearest Triumph dealer. Thanks again.......
In the past I have snapped my front door key in a yale lock. I used a needle to lever the broken piece out ie get in past the key and lever back and for. If you haven't got another key, you'll have to change the barrel which is only secured by a little grub screw. This is probably covered over with something, I will have to have a look at mine.
Had a look no obvious sign of grubscrew but this link might help. Its for a beamer but same setup. BMW motorcycle fork lock, steering, removal, replacement, Neimann
Hi there , Thanks for the information , its much appreciated. I will check this out tomorrow after work ( its a bit dark and cold in my garage at the moment ! ) Will let you know if I am successful......
