I own a 2003 Speed Triple and being a short arse I find I'm on tip toes to reach the floor......is there any adjustment I can do to lower it ( without buying anything extra) I'm also looking at buying a 1050 Sprint and suspect I'll have the same problem . Any help ( or amusing suggestions appreciated)
You can either try platform shoes or lower the suspension by changing the links (dog bones). Either way it is going to cost something!
Try here. Lust Racing lowering Kit 955 Speed Triple 2003 - Rear shock absorber spring retainer http://www.lustracing.co.uk/suspension/triumph-speed-triple-955-lowering-kit.html You would need to compress the suspension spring to take out the old one and put the retainer in It does work as my 2010 Speed triple had one from an earlier owner, and me being 6ft noticed the difference But the absorber was knackered so I was forced to buy a Nitron R2 unit Unfortunately I do not have the lowering kit anymore
I've bought that "kit" from Lust racing though not fitted it yet its only 30mm and not convinced its enough . But I'll just have to give it a try I suppose
don't forget to raise the forks through the triple clamps to keep the bike as level as you can. If that is not enough you are looking at a lower seat.
On my Sprint ST 1050 I have changed the rear shock for one with length adjustment (shock factory made to measure 450 euros, Anyway the old one was not good anymore). I set it 2,5 cm lower For the fork the risers allowed to slide up the tubes (around 2 cm). Without risers, you can't slide up the tubes.
Give this guy a call and he’ll tell you how much you. Can lower the seat by removing stuff from inside. Downside to doing that is, your bum and feet end up closer together. He’s done 3 for me and I got along with them fine. Motorcycle Seatworks. 07759 996642. Bradford. C
Hi, Mike. I know you said you don't want to buy anything extra and I don't know if Triumph (or another vendor) makes one for a 2003 Speedy, but I bough Triumph's low seat for my 2019 speed Triple and that worked for me. Otherwise I was definitely on tip toes. I was glad to be able to make a change with the seat and that I didn't have to actually lower the bike. I did see some low seats available on eBay but didn't check on one that would fit a 2003. Good luck with making a change that works for you!
I am also a short arse at 5’2” but now have the Street Triple Low which is perfect for me. However, in the past I have had issues with seat heights and have found a number of things that help. Firstly, get your seat sculpted can give you an extra inch or two, especially if you have it narrowed as well. Secondly, Daytona do boots that have a raised insole that, in total should give you about 2 inches extra height. Those boots are amazing but very expensive. Sportsbike Shop sell them. All things worth trying before you look at lowering links I reckon
I have bought a rear spring seat lowering spacer from Lust racing and would prefer not to use it , thats very interesting about the boots though , I'll look into those , thank you
Here's a link to the boots https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/98183 they are on sale right now I had the Lady Star and they are really comfy.
