Speed Triple 1050 Owner

    I'm 68 and have been riding some 50 years. 1st bike was a 1966 Triumph TT120 Special ...a Flat Track Racing bike that I had converted to a somewhat "legal" street bike to ride in the US (NY State area). Since then I've owned some 20+ bikes (mostly big bore Japanese sport bikes). This past summer I purchased a low mileage...beautiful condition 2005 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (my 1st Triumph again after owning that '66 TT120) from the original owner and he had put some $4,000 into performance and handling modifications in this bike. What a "BLAST" to ride! Something that probably a 68 year old should not be riding! As I understand it...they call this model line "hooligan bikes". I guess I could be an old hooligan! I've posted 2 pictures of this bike on this forum.

    I have a "Question & Alert" I'd like to post and get some replies on from current or past owners of this model line...but since being new to this forum...don't know how to actually go about this. Thanks!

    Hi Joe and Welcome to the Forum, nice bike you've got yourself there.
    To post in bike specific thread, click forum at top of page, then scroll down until you see Speed Triple, click on that then when it opens at the top right it says start new thread (or something similar).

    Yes...back in those days I "possibly" was! Wish I still had that beast...in it's original dirt track configuration...it would be worth some serious $$$'s!

    From another Joe welcome to the Family. You know the inmates are picking on me at present so I might tell they got the wrong Joe. But you will love it here they really are a great Family. I have ask nursey to up their meds. While they drool over those superb pictures you put up. It always quietens them but they do nod a lot.

    Hi Joe, welcome to the forum ! Love your bike btw ! I am searching for one my self but they rarely go up for sale over here in SA, the guys simply don’t sell them ! There’s one up for grabs currently but the owner wants crazy money, so its onwards forward with my search :no_mouth:. Edit: Agree they are hoon machines o_O

    Great looking bike there bud :grinning:

    Out of all my past bikes my 06 speedy is the only bike I really miss, wished I still had it :pensive:, was a better bike in my view than the 12 plate I also owned.

    I like these earlier ones myself. Like the look of the round lamps. I also spoke with a tech at a Rochester. NY area dealer about these bikes...as I was also looking at a '12 model. He said the electrical wiring was better on the earlier models (don't understand why). Did you remove the passenger pegs and mounts on yours? Looks to be.

    Yes from memory I did remove the passenger pegs.
    The over size of the 12 plate put me off, nothing to do with reliability my 06 was tiny in comparison and made the same power, it was just a really well built machine.

    Minor actual "performance" enhancements (Trident Exhaust Cans w/remapping of Fuel Injection adding some HP boost). Mostly lightened the bike up (removing heavy exhaust) and improved braking w/R1 Front Calipers. Race Tech Rear Shock & Front Fork Spring Kit improved the suspension somewhat. All I can say is after I took this beauty out for a 10 mile loop through some twisty back roads in Connecticut...I had to buy it! Here's a list of what was changed (also got several boxes of all the stock parts w/the bike):
    > Race Tech Rear Shock
    > Race Tech Front Forks Spring Kit
    > Trident Carbon Fiber Exhaust Canisters (remapped FI)
    > Yamaha R1 Front Brake Calipers
    > Spieglar Kevlar Brake Lines
    > R & G Moto Frame Sliders
    > R & G Moto Axle Sliders
    > CSG Moto Engine Sliders
    > Rizoma Handle Bars & Risers
    > Pazzo Racing Brake & Clutch Levers
    > Pro Grip Grips
    > Valtermoto Rear Sets
    > KTM Super Duke Mirrors
    > Sargent Seat
    > Triumph Belly Pan (Factory model w/color match)
    > New Michelin Pilot Tires
    > 2 Tooth Larger Rear Sprocket

    The bikes made close to break times suffer badly add that to a 6 til 2 shift..... horrific quality
