I'm planning on doing my first Solo camping trip this year. I live in Scotland, and have spent a lot of time camping in the North West over the years (with the car) - this time I want to challenge myself to do it on my bike & alone. Not decided exactly when I'll go yet, I've got time off in may and June, so it'll largely depend on the weather. Although, it always seems to pish with rain when I take time off. I'm hoping for another summer like 2018, blue sky days and no rain! (Or midgies ) Going to be using my Vango banshee tent, and the trip should take about 4-5 days, although if the weather is good I might extend it a bit! Does anyone else camp with the bike?
Not done camping for years, used to do rallies and stuff in the 90's & early naughties, but could never carry enough gear on the bike to make it a comfortable experience so as the bones got older I gave up. @dilligaf tows a trailer to stow all the gear he needs (mainly alcohol TBH) but now needs a Rocket 3 to tow it! I have still done trips but just stay in small hotels & B&B's, carry less gear & enjoys the ride more.
Aye, I've had family illnesses and stuff going on and my bike has been in the garage since October. Not much motivation. But spring is coming!!!
Never camped with the bike. I've covered most of the roads on your route though. That should be great!
Yep, done quite a bit of camping over the years both with and without the bike. The secret is not to take too much stuff and ensure what you do take is reliable and versatile. My last trip around the Trossachs and Cumbria was completed with an all up luggage weight for the week of 45lbs including the tent, food and bags themselves. Less is definitely more
I really enjoy trying to pack as little as possible. This was my setup last September when I went away with some of the lassies. I can fit all my camping equipment in the 30L roll top (tent, bag, mat, a wee fold up stool, and a few bits and pieces plus and extra jumper on top) and then my waterproofs and anything else fit in the yellow bag on top. Got myself a tank bag now so I'll stick a couple of t-shirts and some pants in that along with wallet and phone and job's a good un!
Dilli does a lot of camping but I’d be wary of any advice he gives, he has a good time but usually returns minus a tent and self respect!
I used to do a lot years ago not do much these days, but that's a good route you have there plenty to see and do
It’s great! I did the nc500 and camped 3 nights. Brilliant fun and highly recommend! Mind you, it didn’t rain....
Not been camping for a while, did a few 5 & 6 weekers as a student on excavation, but got the kit moved there in a car. Last time bike camping it was in cornwall, it rained so much first night the tent collapsed so we hired a static caravan for the week instead, lush. Enjoy
The lady and I are going to the TT for a week again this year. All we've got to do is remember where we put the tent.
Err! A lady boy, girly girl? Feck knows ... I work in the bang bang house at Madame Sins, you don't have to be a looker to work in there or look like a lady let alone a girly girl ... but as I said before this racing is feckin expensive!
At this point I would like to apologise for derailing a perfectly good thread that has now gone featured , what on earth will people think coming in for a look at the Forum front page for the first time? I was aided & abetted by both @Dozers Dad & @Duckadiledundee who are probably not as sorry as me!
