I sold my fully modded 2006 GSXR 1000 K6 to buy the speed triple. Yesterday I get a call from the guy who bought the bike off me saying he binned the bike. This was his 1st 1000cc and I repeatedly told him to be very careful as they are rocket ships. Luckily he is ok with some bruises. I need to sort some time out to go give him a hand to put the bike back together. I do feel for my bike. Me and the Gixer have been on some epic journeys together and we have always looked after each other. I just realised I posted this in the wrong section. please accept my apologies.
I was going to hit the like button - but it seemed wrong !!! terrible news, I feel for him and of course You, Mate of mine selling his Gen 2 Vmax warned a potential buyer of the same thing, he was insistent on a test drive No money said my mate no test drive, out came the cash was placed into my mates hand and with a definite understanding between them off he went didnt even get 500 yards binned it on the first corner, he actually heard the crash !!!!
He sent some damaged pictures. Front n rear wheel buckled. Swingarm bent. Left rearsets gilles busted. Left engine kevlar covers saved the engine n r&g saved the fairings. Forks need to be checked. Pretty bad hit. He just had the bike for a week. I wished he got used to the bike 1st before gunning her. I am going to give him all the help and advice I can.
I have already asked him to check and he confirmed it's ok. Also I asked him to remove the tank and airbox and thoroughly check the inner frame. I had recall brace done on the frame near the headstock. I just hope the frame is fine
Last night I dug through my bike bits and found a lots of spares for my Gixer, new rear sprockets, carbon hugger, new wheel bearings, etc etc. I might as well give them all to him free. He is going to need all the help he can get. If he had not crashed, I could have sold my bits to fund my triple carbon bits . But hey, shit happens and as you guys said....he is ok and that's the main thing.
Thats very decent of you R_1000 like littleade said not many folk would be as willing to help and advise as you are, good luck !!
Thanks guys. If I don't help him my conscience will eat me up. While I can't financially assist him, the least I can do is offer him advice, parts I already have and some of my time getting my hands dirty fixing the bike. It's all good. The thing is guys you are all great people. You guys are praising me, It's just you guys don't realise the help you give out on a day to day basis. You are all decent The guy will be fine. I have already sent him a few links and he is busy purchasing things. I spoke to the Maidenhead Motorliners and it looks positive. I asked the fella to take some pictures and send it over the motorliner as they are expecting his emails. It will take time but we will get there ;-)
Good on you, but don't know I would be as generous, if someone came back and told me they had trashed my K7 750! Especially by the sounds of it you loved and cherished it. All the best to you pal and I hope he's learned his lesson ! Litre sportsbike's, go quick and bite hard !
R1000.... is the guy a mate ? anyhow it doesn't really matter but well done for your help with a fellow biker.
1st time I met him was a week before Friday when he came to buy my bike. Then the same weekend I went got my s3 . I have known him for just over a week now. He is a decent chap
It's nice to see someone doing more than just looking out for themselves I hope that your new mate appreciates it. Good luck with the repair and hopefully a lesson learned Andy
