Popped into my dealer today whilst out for a blast, to eyeball the Bobber (and to use his loo) and saw the new BMW in the flesh. Looks gorgeous! If this had have been out this time last year while I was waiting for my Thruxton, I might've jumped ship.
I think it looks better in the flesh than the photos but can't understand why they have downspec'd the forks and brakes compared to the nine-t I rode last year.
Partly to keep costs down, partly to retain the look of the 70's cafe racer which wouldn't have had upside down forks. I agree with Bonzo, stunning in the flesh, with some really sweet details. I have a test ride booked tomorrow. I mentioned this bike once on here, but just about managed to get away with it. Got a few negative replies, and the above likened to a "waterpump". Ha ha, bloody nice waterpump!
As with all things BMW pretty much everything is an option these days and money talks. i bet if you ordered one and particularly wanted the R Nine T upside down forks you could have 'em, even though they are not an official option. Or a dealer would oblige. When I bought my Mini Countryman Cooper S the John Cooper Works body kit was not a factory option during build, but my local dealer fitted one once the car landed there. I would order the S model. It's 800 quid more, but you get wire spoked wheels instead of cast mags, and heated grips and a couple other trivial "upgrades", LED indicators or summat
Be interested to hear what you think... I had an R9T but unfortunately had to sell when I lost my job a couple of years back. One thing I would be cautious of is after all the hype and waiting lists etc when the R9T was launched 12 months later they couldn't shift the bloody things..I won't get caught out like that again.☹️
The one I saw was an 'S'. Wish Id've took a picture. Ive always been into BMW bikes. There. Ive said it & I don't care what anyone says
I shall neither be buying an R Nine T Racer, nor selling my Thruxton R, but being a long term owner of a K100RS, hopefully I will be considered for enrolment to the panzergrupen
And me! Had it for 4 hours today. Gotta say I absolutely loved it. Comfier than Thruxton R for a big lad like me. Only stopped for fuel and a quick photo opportunity. Loved the handling, the quirkyness and it sounds like a WWII bomber even with standard pipe. Gott in Himmel!! I got it reet mucky
Owned a 1974 R90S, Silversmoke and Black....that is one I wish I kept. This beast looks very similar, I like it.
I believe those colours are not an option so to speak, they are a limited run. BMW comissioned a certain number to be done by a paint specialist (8 Ball? Or someone like that?) then distributed them to dealers around the country. They look really good in the flesh
