Hi All, My bike is going into the dealers on Saturday to have a map downloaded to it. I've told them I have fitted shorter TORs and blanked off the SAI and they have a map for that. Since reading about tuning stuff though, I have also bought the "Breathe" velocity stack from TTP but haven't fitted it ready as I'm not sure if a dealer have a map suitable for all 3 modifications? Thanks.
Hi, triumph shop only have the 2 maps I believe, standard and arrows, you don't need a remap for ai removal just need to uncheck it on tune ecu so the eml light doesn't come up, their maps don't allow anything for upgraded the intake, the TTP map will allow for this, their maps also require the lambda sensors (O2) to be disabled/ removed which triumph frown upon. I would wait til you have all your mods collected then do them altogether and then you only need to purchase the one map. Edit* Sorry without the breathe and only the tors the triumph tors map should be fine if you actualky need it, I'm sure someone will be along soon with sone advice on that,
That makes sense that they'd only have maps for their own products. Just wasn't sure how far that went. Hopefully the one for the short TORs will improve the throttle response and eliminate the low speed surging, as my bike seems to suffer terribly from that! I do have a SAI removal kit to ft but have stuff a marble in the pipe to stop it popping for now. I'll have to try and get my head round that Tune ECU thing...
Crispey is right - Triumph will only remap for a replacement TORS or Arrows exhaust and not further airbox or intake modifications - you will need Triumph Twin Power (TTP) for that. Removing or disabling the secondary AI system should eliminate the low speed surging. Weirdly my Bonneville never suffered from this so removing the AI made little difference to the running. Incidentally, just fitting the Breathe velocity stack on it's own won't make any or much difference to performance - you will need to install a free flow K&N style filter and remove the air box baffle as well. This is where you will see some benefit and need Tune ECU!
Is it still surging with the marble up the pipe ( ooer!) are you sure it's air tight? Also try a TPS reset by starting her up without throttle use and letting her idle for a few mins
Mine is awful. Like really really awful! Really surges! Also it sometimes dies if I try and grab throttle whilst letting out the clutch too. I have to make sure the revs climb first. I think i've stalled this bike more times than i've ever stalled anything else. I'll just get the suitable map for the TORs and stockpile the other bits until i've sorted out how to use TuneECU. Hi Taipan, I don't think you said but I'm guessing you have an EFI Bonneville ? Assuming I'm right, the symptoms you describe could be by leaking MAP vacuum pipes. There are two of them - one for each cylinder - and they are a bit a 'heath Robinson' the way they fit onto the throttle bodies. I had this on my T100 and very similar bad running problems and I was able to cure it completely by using small zip-ties on the throttle body ends of the pipes, to tighten the joint.

Took my bike into Jack Lilleys for the remap yesterday. Whilst it was being done I spent my time drooling over Thruxtons and Street Cups. Good job my dodgy knee prevents me from riding bikes with that riding position or it could have been an expensive day out! Anyway, my idle was clearly too low as they turned it back up (i'd turned it down) and that helped with the snatchiness (is that even a word!) of the throttle, especially on roll off/ons. There is still some surging at really slight throttle, but I think i can live with that. Got out of town and onto some back roads and put it through its paces. Suffice to say its a lot better. More grunt for less throttle is a good summary. A noticeable improvement and i'm well pleased with the change.

I haven't stalled bike in years but have stalled this one several times because of this? Also if filtering through traffic at a constant speed at about 3k revs at slight throttle opening it really does surge and mess about. I was talking with a guy at Jack Lilleys the other day, saying mine was in for a remap and I hoped it would cure these problems, he said they are pretty well known for it but before he could elaborate or me ask him more, I got called away as my bike was ready. I'm going to trawl the archives and internet, but wondered if anyone else has had this problem and if they found the cause and cured it, or is it a case of, they all do that Sir, and just learn to live with it?

Well it appears i have 97%, give or take, cured it. I had stuck a marble up the inlet pipe of the SAI to disable it but it clearly hadn't done the job properly. Last night the biek cut out on me a couple of times and was just so jerky at part throttle cruising, I'd decided I'd have to back it to the dealer, as it was getting dangerous keep stalling at the lights as the rush hour traffic all tries to pull away. I got home and thought I may as well give it every chance and removed all the SAI pipes and fitted the blanking plug on the airbox and in the cylinder head. A quick roadtest showed me it was quite a bit better but not 100%, so I decided holding off sending my lengthy descriptive email until i'd rode it into work. By the time I got here I knew i didn't have to send the email. Its a changed bike! It was the first time since I've had the bike that I haven't stalled it, or had it cut out on pull away, on a journey. Part throttle cruising is massively improved too. It really felt like a different bike. So if you have the problems I have described here, get a SAI removal kit as that seems to have cured mine.
Well I got TuneECU to work okay and found the throttle balance was out, so rectified that and also took the TPS voltage from 6.5 (standard 6.0) to 7.0. Hopefully that will smooth things out a bit?
What i ended up doing was installing a full TTP Stage 1 tune. This has fully sorted the bike out. No cutting out, no slow speed jerkiness, smooth throttle roll off/ons etc. Really pleased with how the bike runs now.
