I used to buy and sell many damaged cars over the years and got used to reading and understanding reg number area codes so realised that EK/1-999 was Liverpool and never issued on a 1978 S so it's been available on request all those years. There are only six people with my name so I wasn't in a rush. Jammy or what?
I've already ordered a pair of 7x5" plates (show plates) for when I can fit them. One is legal in all aspects (other than size obviously) and tother is black with silver as I liked the look. I had a 7x5 plate on my Duke for 3 yrs with no tugs so fingers crossed. Silver on black might buck the trend though. My porka has been on pressed aluminium show plates with the German effect font for 4 months and no tugs as yet as the lettering is correctly spaced and clearly legible plus I don't tend to dick about in the car to attract unwanted attention.
I don't know if this is if any help or actually correct but I have a suspicion that you can't use a private plate that's been on a car and stick it in a bike. Just in case any purchase is made and that's the case you might want to check. Andy
Good to know I do recall trying to put mine from the car to the bike probably 20 years ago and being refused.
Any suggestions where to buy a good quality black and silver metal pressed plate ? Some I've seen are a bit naff and the plastic ones don't look right..
I think you'll get away with the 7x5 plate but if black n silver it's probably pushing it a bit far if you meet an enthusiastic copper. I've used Pressed plates and A1 show plates before. I love the ally pressed plate look on my porka as it suits the German look and touch wood not had issues as yet. My retention papers are here and say you can get a dealer to pre register so I'll see if it's possible with them, if not it's a simple electronic transfer on line now using the v5 and retention form.
Yes we did the same with our VW I'm sure the dealer allocates a new number before the registering of the private plate I just left it up to them, as I will to the new dealer once I decide to swop the beast
Out of interest if anyone wanted a "classic looking" plate these two were available at £250 quid direct from dvla D6 THR T50 THR Would look better than a modern 66 plate I think
Think it's illegal not to have a reflector also, they need to be of a certain size so putting one of those ones the size of a 10 pence won't cut it if Mr Plod is really in a bad mood.
I paid about £250 for my T100 plate from DVLA (which included transfer fees) this was a couple of years ago, and now everyone and his brother seem to have T100 plates !!... Still, they fit onto a smaller plate without looking too illegal.
Team Roberts lovely staff confirmed if i drop the retention certificate in i can get them to pre-register it on my plate! as a thank you, i'm almost certainly going to order the fairing as i've ummed and ahhhd for about a month non stop now!
