My name is Mr Orange, and I dislike PR4's Ugly tread pattern and hated the movement I could feel through the rear of the bike. Lasted me 2500 and I will not use again. Found Pirelli Angel GT a much better tyre, wet and dry, less movement and more miles. Not a Michelin hater, loved Pilot Powers 3's, they were awesome in the dry, way better than sports touring rubber. As for getting rid of chicken strips, have found it is sometimes impossible due to tyre profiles, my rears strips are usually none or very small (on the cruiser), yet to get close on a front tyre.
Got a brand new set of Pirelli Angel GT's in my garage for the last 18months, will be trying them when this latest rear tyre and front are due for replacing together. Unless someone wants to buy them from me.
Has it not got a lot to do with what bike there on ? A friend of mine had angel gt on his street triple and said they spoiled the ride.
More so to do with the rider in my opinion. What you like and what you feel through the bars and your arse! Opinions on tyre's, are just that, an opinion. Some people swear by pr's, , know many who love the GT's. But next road bike I get, will be getting a new pair of GT's on it ASAP.
What works for one does not necessarily work for another, experience and testing is the only true method but if you have none of these options then forum discussions related to your bike are a very good way to glean information providing you read them thoroughly as most modern tyre have a huge overlap in performance built into their design.
PR4s are good tyres in my opinion . It lasted 6,000 miled n did the job very well through my Europe trip in all sorts of weather conditions . But as Darkman man said....everyone has different requirements. So what works for me doesn't necessarily be good enough for another . you will just need to use everyone's opinion as a guideline ; -)
Got Angel ST's on my Speedy and don't like them.... Had PR4's on my past 2 600 Sports bikes ( as I ride every day to work) and loved them Will be going for PR4's again, I prefer the rounded profile of Michelins....Don't like tyres that fall on to the side I prefer hustling it around
Never tried Metzelers... Tried Pirelli Diablos Rosso, SuperCorsas, Angel ST Bridgestone BT014, BT016 Pro Michelin Pilot Power, Pilot Power 3, Pilot Road 4 Preferred all the Michelins over the others....
PR4s are really good tires n you will get a good life out of it. M7RRs are excellent as long as you don't put lot of mileage because they won't last . However if this bike is a weekend blast then defo worth looking into ; -)
Mr Orange and Darkman have it right, no two bikes ride exactly the same and neither do two riders. I had a pair of Michelins on my bike and never really got the feel for them, had some Angel GTs fitted the other month and the bike rides a lot better, no longer does it follow ridges in the road, far more confidence boosting for me, so I am happy. Trouble with tyres is it can cost an absolute fortune to get the ride you want when each pair is around the 200 to 250 quid mark, you cannot afford to buy some then change them straight away just coz you dont like em so you tend to stick with them till they are shot. Well i do anyway. Unless youre lucky and have someone who will buy them off you
Definitely mate..... Cost me a lot of cash between 4 bikes and 3 years to decide I like Michelins best
If you like Michelin they have new rubber coming out soon going to be interesting what they make with there motogp experience
Yeah been reading about them.... Be nice in the summer but don't think they will be much cop for my 12 months a year riding though
I have Pilot Road 4 trials on my Tiger 800....2nd set, so yeah they are good. Got just under 9000 miles out of them including the back one being plugged from about 5000...it was only the back one squaring off that made me change them as a pair....the front one even at 9000 miles was still legal & only mildly squared off & was even offered back to me by the tyre place!!!
