Rock hard in the center 20% of the rear sounds very very good for the mileage for commutes and motorway work! I loved the PR3's on my SMT but went to Angel GTs more recently to get more mileage...big mistake in hindsight...I'll still want one more Angel rear on my bike yet before I make a move to a new set to get the most out of the front but it may well be the PR4s then get fitted after that if they're not a complete rip off...worst case PR3s will be cheaper by then so I'll go back to them again
I'm not quite so sure about them using the 'medium' compound rather than the 'soft' for the other 80%?
Nah, I bet those harder compounds would still be fine for riding with next to no chicken strips (once warmed up)...just not the best for track days...
Kind of excited by these. Still loving the PR3's. I'm reading writing this after riding back from Malvern (4am) and opting to take the motorway because the A49 was flooded to hell on the way down. Went to overtake a couple of cars before a slip road and ended up spinning the back wheel up at 90 in 6th! Even so, the PR3's still felt very tractable. Though the soggy blind night ride was certainly not the most fun I've had!
My PR3 is nearly finished so I'll be ordering my new tyre this next week some time. I can see the PR4 being better in many respects to the PR3 and although softer, it is also supposed to be an improved compound so still offering excellent grip. Do I stick a PR4 on the rear while keeping the PR3 on front, or save myself £20 and just get another PR3? Hmmmmm, decisions! I really like the look of the PR4 front as I'm thinking the new tread pattern will give it a little more feedback perhaps. If I get another PR3 for now I will hopefully be able to get a matched set of PR4's for next time. Hmmm, Hmmmmm
I've always found the Pilots to be a little interchangeable - used to ride a PR2 rear with a Pilot Power on the front. I'm sure the compounds will be fine, K, - it's just what goes on in your head that's the real restrictor.
cheers brybrem. Going to go ahead and order some PR3's I think. Save my money and hopefully the front and rear will need changing at a similar time. Have also ordered some HID's! Sick off the crappy stock headlights, will post some pics when they're on. Hopefully a worthy upgrade! Seem to be doing a lot of night time miles at the minute.
Had some PR4's fitted to my Speed yesterday done about 150 miles on them now and all is good, this is my first time on Michelins having had Bridgestone and Dunlop for years. Have to say I was a little apprehensive and only had them because I got a deal on them compared to the T30's. They steer well, really stable in the corners and the side grip was good, the only thing I did notice is that the rear skipped quite a bit more under braking than the stock Metzelers but the may have more to do with better grip from the front making the rear end go light? Proof of the pudding will be how well they perform in the wet and ultimately how well they last but so far so good!
Hi all, had PR4s fitted to my 1050 2012 Speed Triple and also had them fitted to my wife's 2014 Street Triple R, just done a 700 mile weekend around Wet Wales. Saturday over the Beacons in really Heavy rain. The tyres performed superb, best wet weather tyres I have ever fitted.( been riding 44years). Sunday the weather was ok so was able to corner at high speed, you have some usable roads in this area to play on and the tyres never offered to move. If they wear as advertised, these boots are a good buy.
I've just had a pair of PR4's fitted to my Speed 94. I was massively underwhelmed with the stock Metzeler Racetec tyres in the wet. Even riding gently to get used to the bike, and being cautious after a break of a couple years, I had the back let go on corner and spin up. The rear has squared off alarmingly quickly ( 3K miles!!) so thought I'd get them changed. I shopped around on line and got a pair for £255 fitted from ProTyres in Exeter. I'd happily go back there, good quick service and a couple of the guys in there ride. So far, so good. They feel nice, turn in nicely, but i've not really pushed them yet. Looking forward to some better wet performance and i'm expecting better longevity.
Hi there, I think I posted a reply to a similar question in an earlier post but here goes. I used to love Michelens espesially theie 2CT's nice plush ride. Then suddenly their tyrs started feeling very harsh a bit like a Bridgestone. So changed to Pirrelli then tried the Metzeier Z8 interact best tyre yet. Then I changed my bike it came with new Pilot rod 4's good all round performance but felt a little harsh. Any way after major surgery I found my bike to be to heavy for me so changed it for another lighter bike. It came fitted with new Metzeler Z8 interacts, wow I had forgotten how good these tyre are. Then last week in MCN I see they where second best tyre after the new Metzeler 01. My advice just go and by a pair and have them fitted. There are some very good deals on Z8's as they have now been superseded, how I see it why bother buying a new rear when for not much more you could probably buy a pair of Z8's. Just my 2pennerth. Just in case you are interested after five of my riding buddies tried my bike they now all use the Z8's bikes are Panigale, 1200 multistrada, 1200s monster, bmw s1000r, 800 brutale and my Speed Triple. Just shows this tyre works with a large sector of bikes, and dont forget (life's to short to grow up).
I've been using Pilot road series for a few years now. I've used others, the stock bridgestone battlax and avon storm. I find that the Pilot road series of tyres give me confidence in the wet. Not that the others are that bad, but I just feel better on the PRs. I've tried PR2s Pr3s and just now th PR4 GTs. I figure that I'd get better mileage from the GTs but that is yet to be seen. What they've done with the PR4s is to of course go with a harder compound with the GTs but also they've decreased the number of grooves in the tyre and increased the round reservoirs(sipes) along those grooves to make them better even though there is less of them. This increases the rubber on the road, without compromising the water removal. Its winter here and I'm a year round rider. Tyres are scrubbed in well now so its time to see. Today I lent the bike right over at about 25mph and it hung on beautifully in the dry. Now for the wet. I'm careful but time to push a bit.
Took the Metzlers off my triple before I collected it last year, my P4s have been great, no issues and got a great deal, they took the unused Metzlers into stock and it cost me £25 for the labour. Don't know why Triumph used to use these tyres as standard, they were crap.... and uninspiring.
I used to have PR4s on a ducati hypermotard and loved them,I've got the Angel gt on my speed triple and they are fantastic, but I'm going to try the PR4s when it comes to renew the tyres on my speed triple just to see which i prefer, i'll get slightly more wear from the PR4s and although the Angels are good in the wet the PR4s are fantastic (not that i plan to go out in the wet )
