I spent 25 mins waiting to query about a £10 increase on last years premium for my Crossover which expires this week.. Old guy problems I guess. This year’s fully comp cover with breakdown and legal cover is £212 but with a £200 compulsory excess.

They can charge what they want, as they don't give a toss if you get it or not, doesn't affect them in the slightest, as we all know, it's a legal requirement that we all have it.
No point in customer service then.

SWMBO had some numpty reverse into her nearly 5 years ago when she was stationary. Her Dashcam not only caught it all but also him admitting liability. Despite protected no claims her policy renewal went up by quite a bit. We were both with the same insurer (Saga) with the same renewal date and she went from being cheaper then me ( I have a more powerful, newer car) to quite a bit more. Nearly 5 years on the situation is still the same, we both still have the same cars with no further claims or convictions. "They" claim if you have 1 accident you're more likely to have another which in her case is bollox, but they won't refund all the extra they've charged her since. Robbing twats the lot of them

Funnily enough my Bennetts policy renewal notification came through today, opening it was a bit like being a bomb disposal guy wondering whether cutting the red wire is going to be the right decision. Cringing behind my key board I committed and press enter!! For 2 bikes it was £560, £50 quid less than last year  Then I noticed that they'd left my declaration of an accident on there, over 3 years ago so should have come off, so I called them. That is why it's £50 cheaper, they say, bollox!! I have use for business as once in a while I take the bike to work, not commuting as it's different locations, so I asked them what difference that would make if I took it off, £150!! Jeez! for the couple of times a year I use the bike to go to work I got that removed.

If I'm reading this right, you were charged £184 to change details on an existing policy by Bikesure?
I had exactly this conversation at the Motorcycle Live/NEC show last November, with a rep on the Bikesure stand.

My online renewal quote for 4 bikes arrived as usual in November. I wanted to add a 5th bike so called them. The quote was altered (upwards of course). I said I was going to discuss the figure at the show so the quote was put 'on hold'.

To my surprise at the show the quoted figure was instantly dropped by £50 before any other negotiation took place. The reason given was that there is a standard charge of £65 to change details on an existing policy, which drops to £15 if done face-to-face (ie.at the show). Hence my £50 discount.

That's at odds with your experience with Bikesure.

Haven’t worked out why we have to pay an insurance premium tax on something that’s compulsory….

Just another government euphemism for VAT. After all why should they relinquish the opportunity to screw their electorate for a few more pennies?

Out of their benign benevolence the mandatory insurance of our bikes and cars only attracts tax at the standard rate.
