Our little guy is not doing too well. His ailments are catching up. Skin and bones and showing signs of dementia. Appetite's still there though. I'm heading back off to work in another couple days. I don't expect him to still be with us when I return.
Malcolm looks like he's got tons of personality, doov! I particularly like the photo of him with his stick.
I'm really sorry to hear how poorly your little guy is doing, @Golgotha. We know what we're facing when they come into our family but it's so heartbreaking to say goodbye after they've become such a part of our lives and our hearts.
Cheers. I just took him in to the vet and he's spending the day there on an electrolyte drip. They're running various tests as well.
Normally we have no pets at home. But after some days off we returned and found this special "little" friend. We named him "Nermal". On sunny days he is coming out of his secret place.
Katsu has left the building. Approx 2pm EST. Couldn’t even stand up as of early this AM. It was time.
How sad. Poor little soul. I know how it feels. I'm sure he had a good life with you, and hope that is some comfort.
Loosing a family member, animal or human, just sucks. I have 2 cats myself and dreading the day when they have to go.
Estrella - mini schnauzer - May 2007, May 2021 She gave us 14 marvelous years Photo from Feb 2020 I grew up with dogs and I do not recall grieving as I had with this last one When I was a boy we had cockers, boxers, a Saint Bernard Since I was the one who cleaned after the dogs it took a few years to convince me to get another one, having my kids asking for a dog was enough pressure and I gave in. The mini schnauzer was inside the house most of the time, she will be my excuse to go out and exercise, she'll go camping, etc etc
I was actually spared the anguish of his passing. I'm back out on rotation for another few weeks. The Mrs had to deal with it. She had a rough day. I've always been more of a "dog guy" but the Mrs likes cats, so I guess that makes me a "cat guy" for now. We rescue unwanted seniors from kill-shelters. One at a time, typically no younger than 10 yrs old, often with preexisting health cond's. We know we have very little time with them. It's hard but you have to look at it as saving a tiny, otherwise insignificant life. Katsu would've been euthanized NLT MAR of last year. Pretty sure he'd been neglected. Trust me, you get just as attached as if you'd got them as kittens. Here's the old boy back sometime last winter. He was always mamma's boy. We'd gotten some weight back on him by then. Things started to go like 2 or 3 months ago. He fought hard. And he will be missed.
Damn - that is so sad, and yet the backstory is so heartwarming. I'm a cat lover that tolerates dogs because I love my wife, so I get a sense of how you're both feeling right now. Hope the next Katsu gets an equally good shot for his/her ninth ....... Bless you both.
i’m sorry for the loss of your beloved furry friend. They really do become part of your life and take a piece of your heart when they leave.
Cheers guys. Thanks for the sentiments. I braced myself for this one. The writing on the wall was clear. Sucks the Mrs had to face it alone. There's people on this site currently moaning about petty interpersonal BS but here we have several people hundreds to thousands of miles apart who've never even met reaching out empathetically over a shared passion due to a common interest. There's something to be said about that.
