Possibly another issue.... Speed Triple 2011 Noticed last night rising home my temp gauge never got over 2 bars Went up OK when sat still, back to 2 when riding. Manual says thermostat starts opening at 88 degrees which is around 4 bars I think ? So possibly my temp has gone up the spout, just checked £34 for a new one ! Anybody know of others that fit ??
Wait till weather warms up and see what happens. An exposed engine on a speed will loose a lot of heat. You may be reacting too quickly.
Done it mate.... Sat in a layby bike got up to temp fan came on Rode a bit more and it dropped back down to 2/3
Yeah temp gauge goes up fine letting it tick over stationary... As soon as I'm moving with wind into the rad it drops to about 2 bars I understand the cold could affect it but surely the bike wouldn't have been designed to ride in cold weather with water at 40-50 degrees
Do you know that's what it corresponds to exactly. My triumph (with a gauge) does not even move when its cold weather. I ended up chasing my tail and now just leave it as that's the way it is. In more normal temps its fine.
I am sure you have already checked this, but if not please check your coolant is fully topped up in the radiator and the expansion tank. If the cooland has leaked and the level dropped it may not be reaching the sensor and thereby only the ambiant temp is being shown.

Already got one mate..... TuneECU showed ( it wasn't super accurate as it went up in 2 degrees sometimes 4 degrees) 1 bar...........33°c 2 bar...........45°c 3 bar...........55°c 4 bar...........68°c 5 bar...........73°c 6 bar...........94°c Then fan cut in at 103°c before 7th bar lit up Today let bike tick over till fan came on Rode a few miles in 30mph......5 bars 10 mile of country roads giving it some stick.......4 bars Came back into 30mph for about 5 minutes stop starting.......just clicked 5 bars 55 on dual carriageway for few mile.....dropped to 4 bars after 1/2 a mile So coming in today I'm around 70°c Going home last night was around 50°c Bear in mind the ECU still messes with idle speed (and im assuming mixture) up to 75°c I'm wondering if half my running issues are due to the bike never really being up to proper working temp for any constant running time to allow the ECU to adjust adaptations as at the minute its adjusting for low temp running and trimming for air temp/ pressure at the same time I'm stunned that a bike who's fan kicks in so much in traffic to stop overheating can struggle to get up to temp so much....
Hi Jody, If you are that worried about cool running, cover your radiator ! Truckies do it world wide in colder weather ! Some truck companies even build their trucks with temperature activated louvres in front of the radiators, they open gradually as truck warms up, but are also reactive to ambient air temperatures, so won't fully open if the ambient temp is too low ! Ha ha ha I'm assuming there IS one fitted as I haven't looked yet.... This was more of an exercise too see if everyone/anyone else's 1050 does the same before I start ripping it apart If all other 1050s don't get over 2 bars on 0° rides then it's just another Triumph foible to add to the list....
My 2010 Speed Triple runs consistantly at 5 bars, occasionally getting to 6 bars before the fan kicks in. It takes maybe 5 min to get to 5 bars, even in -5 temps.
Yeah that was my original thinking.... Checked something else today Started bike up and let it get to 2 bars (45°) Touched radiator and it was hot.....my understanding is that the hot water doesn't get to the rad till the thermostat opens (88°) ??? Riding in again today 4 bars, quick blast up to 70ish (officer) and dropped back to 3 bars Think it's time for a new (£33) thermostat
Cheers buddy Ha ha ha can't beat a bit of Heath Robinson engineering..... My thermo must be knackered for the temp to stay that low and the rad water to be heating up too at 45°
If you are not sure about it then it would be worth fitting a new one ( don't forget to test it in boiling water before fitting) and replace the coolant with the recommended fresh triumph coolant for your bike.
