Morning all I am thinking about replacing/removing the stock display panel (speed and rev) and installing a mini odometer. Ive been looking around the net and cant see a difinitive answer on what should be done with the mileage. Before i started investigating i thought i could simply install the new odometer and adjust the mileage to the previous. Them god for bid i ever have to sell the bike i could adjust the old to the new mileage if someone wanted the bike as stock. Now i understand that fiddling the mileage is illegal (i live in the uk) but the above seems like a reasonable thing but is this also illegal? If it is how what is the standard protocol if you replace the odometer? It also makes me feel more relunctant to replace it If this isnt, is it a simple procedure to change the mileage? Any input would be much abliged Ps it is for a bonnie 08
I think odometers are generally made to be difficult or impossibe to reset. If I was changing odo I would keep the old unit, take a foto of it displaying the miles /kms just before taking it off, then when you sell you have the original odo, a record of original odo reading and a new odo reading (which should have been zero when you fitted it). You could get obsessive about it and have the reading verified by your dealer before you do the change. In any case keep your old MOT certificates and service documentation as these will back up the mileage too.
The way round it if you sell the bike is to stick a disclaimer on the face of the clock stating this mileage cannot be guarenteed as accurate. Just run the new clock from zero because that's what dealers would do for a manually operated unit if that's which type it is.
