Number plates, can anybody explain to me why anyone would keep the registration number a secret when advertising their bike for sale.. Given the reg no I can do a mileage/ MOT history and if I am really interested check HPI. I would do these things to protect myself, why the hell cover up a number plate. I know I must be missing something because loads do. Thank you Mallywoods.
I've often wondered why, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me, I've probably sold on six or seven bikes over the last 12 years or so, all have been advertised on-line, and, touch wood, not one single problem. I suspect people don't think too hard about it, they just follow the herd.
Cloning I guess. If for example you have a Bonneville reg No. ABC123 and someone has a similar bike, same colour etc. If they clone your plate and rack up some speeding camera fines, it might take some explaining when they land through your letter box. I know its not as easy as it used to be to get a reg plate made up, but its still possible if you have the right (or should that be wrong) contacts.
It stops the naughty people copying your number and racking up loads of tickets for offences that weren’t down to you
It's because unscrupulous people will trawl for sale sites for number plates then clone another stolen bike or car of the same make and model to drive without causing attention I'm sure if you were serious about buying a vehicle the seller would provide you with the relevant information
There are websites that offer services to provide personal information, including the address of the owner of a registration number. Edit, too slow!
