Hope someone can help me on this My 2001 speed triple 955i does not seem to be getting warm . Let me try and explain I do 35 miles to work and back each day and the temp gauge does not move much past the cold is this right ? I'm used to the needle sitting around the middle mark
Sounds feasible for this time of year. You can check that your gauge is functioning by putting the temperature sender wire to earth & the needle should sweep across the dial. Could be a faulty temperature sender, which would mean that the engine is getting up to temperature as normal but being faulty it is sending false information to the gauge. Or another possible fault could be a thermostat stuck open? Normally the thermostat is shut until the coolant within the engine reaches the desired temperature that the thermostat is manufactured to open at, the thermostat then opens allowing the hot coolant to flow into the radiator to be cooled & back round again & so on & so forth. If the thermostat is stuck up the coolant will flow continuously & therefore struggle to reach the "normal" operating temperature. Hope this helps?
Nothing for you to worry about sir, its all mechanical jargon thats obviously gone straight over the top of your head! x
When the engine is hot check to see if hose to rad and rad is too, this should indicate the thermostat has opened
