So I was luckily enough to find and buy a 2008 Speed Triple with factory Arrow Lowboy - with only 650 miles on it! As you’d expect, the bike is a brand new bike in every way and looks like it should be in a showroom. It was imported last year from a German collector who has many bikes. I don’t know too much about it’s lufe other than it’s been run weekly to keep it healthy but I still have some questions I’d appreciate help with: 1. Thoughts on running in / servicing the engine? What’s the procedure for a bike at this mileage? Is it halfway there? I know it’s had at least a few oil change so far, as well as brake fluid, a new battery and new tyres in 2016 (original buyer obviously not short of cash). 2. The engine check light and fuel reserve light are ‘on’ permanently even with a full tank. The bike runs perfectly tho. I know it also had a Speedo swap to MPH by a Triumph dealer in London. Help much appreciated. Pix to follow!
Thanks pal. Okay I’ll see what happens. The fuel reserve light is a faulty float sensor? Can it be linked to the EML?
I'm certainly no expert, but if it were me then I'd give it a service; oil, filters, fluids. And with that low mileage over 11 years, which only equates to about 5 miles per month, I would treat it like it has not been run in. Sounds like a good find...get those pictures posted
This means running it upto temp then cool off then back in the same session? I already rode it from the seller 30 miles - didn’t really get above 4000rpm.
The EML is more likely to be linked to the replacement of the speedometer/instruments. If it is, I'd be very disappointed in the dealer's attention to detail - or lack thereof! If it's not a hard fault then it should clear after three heat cycles as DD has suggested.
Turned out to be a faulty float sensor that was also triggering the EML. The heat cycle reset didn't work. Thanks all.
