Being a nodding biker myself - I've noticed that since I've been riding my Triumph (as opposed to gixxer & before that fireblade) - other bikers have shown a reluctance to nod at me , in fact most of the time I'm largely ignored now , whereas on my last bike I nearly always got acknowledged (apart from Goldwing & most Harley riders ) - now though it seems sportsbike riders have a real problem with me - is it the bike ?? or is it my new leather jacket ? or is it just that time of year ? or am I being too sensitive lol ? - Anyhow , I've decided to adopt a new approach . No more willy nilly nodding - I'll only nod in return - unless I forget & accidentally nod anyway , the question is , are other bikers reluctant to nod at cruiser style bikes or Triumph's (shock /horror)
Had to smile at your post Dodge, here in Germany we put our hand out in various ways depending on what kind of bike you ride and the only mongs that don't greet are Goldwing riders. I don't seem to have problems on my Speedmaster. Oh by the way 125 riders are never ever acknowledged, don't ask me why.
Perhaps they think your a Harley so don't bother  I've noticed people don't nod as much,I nod at everybody(except scooters) if they don't nod back then f**k 'em I'm not going to be accused of being ignorant. I prefer the French way with a sideways V sign.
I nearly always nod to other bikers, there is a massive Harley group around my area, and most of them will give me a nod in return, but there are the odd few who just blank me altogether. I also find Goldwing riders to be the most ignorant when it comes to nodding, or waving. In answer to the original post, i reckon it's cos from the front your bike is mistaken for a Harley !
I nod at all bikes except scooters, I even do it to 125 riders. hey we all started somewhere, lol. I find generally the other Triumph riders acknowledge me but my Sprint has a Triumph logo on the front of the fairing ,the proper one ,not that horrid square thingy, so people can see what it is before I get to them. It always makes me smile when I see another Triumph, I feel like it is a brother. Daft old me,lol
I think Goldwing riders don't nod is because they're too busy with their coffee machine or microwave. I also find BMW riders are a bit snobbish not the GS riders the shity tourers whatever they're called.
I always nod to other bikers and 90% return the nod, was in America in 2007 and every biker stuck a hand out when passing no matter what bike they were riding even Goldwing riders not that there were many mostly Harleys but all the same everybody was acknowledged no matter who or what you rode, over here they seem to stick to similar bikers to nod to, I ride a Speedmaster and the wife rides a Cagiva Rapter, she generally gets more nods back.
Yep nod to all, wiggle foot abroad. When I ride mi Harley, sports bikes don't, when I ride mi Triumph Bonnie, weekend warriors don't, when I ride mi 125cc Harley well, people don't know what to do and when I ride little Yamaha scooter...well..Heh heh heh..Don't yer just love other peoples reactions. Have fun out there and always stop for a broken down bike. Whilst on my Fatboy, stopped fer a Blade, embarrassed owner run out petrol, no probs we have all done it, gave him a lift for petrol and back. I reckon there's others on here who do same. When I'm out with Classic club, I'm usually at back with spanners, although I didn't have a wheel wrench when a trike owner had a brake binding problem....:upyeah:
Always nod if it's got two wheels and always to learners on 125's - I remember other bikers nodding at me when I was learning on mine and it felt good to be "included".
Not many wanted to nod today on the way to Devils Bridge, It's better in Scotland they all give a wave, probably because they are all so happy to be on great and traffic free roads!
lol , I think you're right , everybody must think I'm on a Harley , I'll have to get an open face helmet & a bandana
I'm a waving man myself. I don't think that I have ever nodded at another motorcyclist. I've never really took much notice of the riders type or make of machine. I do usually get a wave or nod back in response.
Nah, they're probably just looking around for all the bits that have fallen off! I'm a nodder, but not scooters or off-roaders.
Never nod at BMW riders full stop, never expect one back. I know about Harley as I've had 5 of them. The Vrod never got a nod from anyone at all??? Everyone else gets a complimentary free, head side angled nod. :upyeah:
I must be a mong, lol, I cant get that side angled nod right. I always just nod vertically, like one of those nodding dogs you used to see in the back window of cars.
I nod at everyone regardless of their chosen ride - we are all face the same challenges in one way or another. I really don't understand the snobbery between different types of bike owners. I was a scooterist for almost 20 years and you don't get the same thing, everyone seems to acknowledges one another whether they ride a classic Lambretta, Vespa or a modern Auto.
I try to acknowledge everyone if they nod back all well and good and if they don't then no worries. A bike rider is a bike rider and at the end of the day that's all that matters
Agree with sprintdave - do not seem able to get that side angled "professional" nod right - must be my old stiff neck!
