Hi All, New to the forum, but long time Triumph owner (5+ years with a street triple), and I have taken the plunge and bought a 73 T120R Bonneville from a friend of a friend that has been sat for a while and I am planning on some TLC. I am torn between restoring the bike to original spec, or doing it to how I want, but I can't find anything about the paint scheme that is on the bike- anyone got any ideas?? Frame and Engine serials match, but I'm not sure if it is something aftermarket, or factory that is on the bike. Any advice or pointers appreciated!
I'm pretty new here and thoroughly enjoy it, so, welcome! Except for the colors, I love the looks of that old bike. From an American point of view, it looks like the paint scheme of a deranged Dallas Cowboy fan.
Perfect- i was finding it hard to find good images of that year and paint scheme- cracking job on that bike, I now have something to aim for!
JungleG83 Welcome to the family. Great project. I say do it the colour you want it will make you much happier. They did so many paint schemes it is hard to follow what was original or not and once you paint it. It becomes restored not original. So do what makes you happy. The best place for enquiries on the older bikes is the TOMCC. They if possible will give you the release date and to what area or dealer and colour when released. Regards and keep those pictures coming. Regards Joe.
Welcome to the forum, JungleG, and congrats on that "new" bike! Please keep us posted on your restoration decision and progress.
Thanks All, appreciate the welcome! I'm still very torn between the keep it original and restoring- i like the restored bikes, but also plan on riding it, so thinking of doing it in stages so I can keep it on the road. I get my hands on it in the next few weeks so will see how it looks once a good wash, carb clean and oil change takes place! Thanks for the TOMCC tip, will check that out as well.
Welcome to the forum this bike would look so cool in a dark metallic red and keep just the side panels black
