    Thanks for the welcome,
    I do need to descibe it better, so here goes;
    The Bike takes a few kicks (sometimes 6 or more ) before it fires up. When it does start, it revs to approx 3k rpm, and then stops.
    The few times I have managed to keep it running, which isnt often, the bike stalls if the throttle is opened, even a small amount, which I put down to the bike not at running temp.
    I may take the carbs off again (I am getting very quick at that as well!), and may replace the new Lucas battery, with a higher quality one, just in case.
    Looking forward to having it running, for obvious reasons... and that my neighbours think I have tourette syndrome, if you know what I mean..!

    Good description of the problem. To me this sounds entirely fuel related and I wouldn't spend money on a battery right now. It would probably be best to break-down your problem as follows: 1) # of kicks is probably just related to the underlying problem (the old bikes that I had always took a few kicks to start), 2) why does it rev to 3,000 on a start and die (could the petcock be leaking when the bike sits and cause the bike to surge on the start - and then the filter is clogged and won't allow the bike to run?), and 3) cutting out when you open the throttle (probably starving for fuel and you don't have the right air/fuel mixture). I'm saying the above ideas are right, but if you break the problem down to it's individual parts and think hard enough about it, the answer will come to you. I'm sure this description will help other members to offer some advice.

    Is it insured ?, if so, burn it and claim on the insurance, that way you can get the bike you really want.
    Simple ?, non, my little cheese and onion crisp.

    as the bike got a choke fitted
    if using choke to start do not touch accelerator until it wams up and see if that helps
    definitely sounds like fuel problem and as hack driver say no need to replace battery as yet
    Bike looks good though

    It has a cold start system, bit may be changed to a manual choke in the near future.
