I got the email from Triumph as well. Not sure at the moment. I have a Tiger Sport 1050 so will be interested to see the technical spec for the 850 bike and how it stacks up against the 900 and the 1050...
It looks a bit like a Multistrada in those moody shots. Not one I'd go for but I'm sure it'll be a great bike. It'll be interesting to hear what the likes of @Wessa other Tiger owners think.
It looks very interesting. But I can hardly see any differences to the actual TIGER GT 900 which my wife is riding. The only variation I found on the posted photos are the missing handguards. All other shown parts are in my opinion identical.
Pretty much looks the same as my 900 GT Pro. Apparently same engine and same bhp - presumably a bit of "badge engineering" until the replacement for the ageing 1050cc engine arrives.
What on earth is the point? We have a tiger 900, potentially a 660 and now an 800. Don't you think Triumph are rather crowding the market with lots of slightly differing capacities? Maybe I just need someone to explain it to me.
Yep have to agree. For me the 1050 is an absolutely fantastic motor and they could use it with updated electronics. Mind the current bike has enough stuff on it for me as it is. Not sure if there is a need for the number of engine variants in the triumph adventure range. edit: of course they could drop the 1050 soon
I don’t know if anyone could decide if they like it or not from 3 glimpse photos I think that Triumph will soon drop the 1050 engined Bikes from the range,they’ve had a good run out of it. If you don’t move with the times you get left behind,,,,sounds familiar
I agree Dave not enough info out yet. Yep the 1050 will soon be no more... Fortunately there are still likely to be loads on the road in the second hand market for people to own and love
Isn't there supposed to be a new 1160cc engine under development for the new Speed Triple? Presumably they could put that in a new Tiger Sport.
I'm even more of a Luddite. Still riding my Tiger 955i. Every time I feel I ' ought' to replace it I think ' What would this new one do that mine wouldn't?' So far I haven't answered that one. I would like a 1050 Sport but being a skinflint I'll wait till I need a new bike.
So the new Tiger 850 Sport will actually be less powerful than the Tiger 900 it's based on. Tiger 900 GT 95PS and 87 Nm Tiger 850. 85PS and 82 Nm Work that one out!
Probably a re-badged base 900 that Triumph dropped from the line up due to poor sales! Why detune the engine though and then call it a "Sport"?
I’ve just watched the video from triumph on the new 850 sport and it looks just like a tiger 900,from the first pics triumph released I was expecting a bit better looking bike.
Its apparently tuned for more mid range and at a couple of hundred quid over £9k its a lot cheaper than a 900 GT Pro for example. True you don't get all the bells and whistles, but it sounds like a good package to me. I wonder if the missus will let me have one of these and a new Trident too?
Well we will find out in due course what the master plan is but I suspect updated Speedies and Sports (such as they exist) with Euro 5 compliant engines might get held back from view while shifting older stock at current prices rather than in a fire sale kicked off by new models. Covid may be a factor both in sale volumes and manufacturing.
