Hi all, I test rode an RS last weekend from Metropolis and I was instantly hooked so I am picking my RS up on Saturday having ridden a Hypermotard 821 for the last year. It's an ex demo, '67 plate with arrow can, LED lights and factory tail tidy with circa 670 miles on the clock. I'm based in SW London and it would be good to know if there are any ride outs/meets anywhere near me. Cheers Tom

Hi Angus, I owned a normal Hyper, not the SP. It’s hard to compare the two bikes as the Triple is much higher spec (brakes and suspension) so a Hyper SP might be a fairer comparison but I’ll give it a go. The seat height on the hyper is extremely tall (875mm and regardless of SP or not) and although I’m 6ft, I’ve got stubby legs and I couldn’t get two feet flat on the floor which was always a pain in the arse. Just from sitting on the Triple you feel a lot more comfortable and in control of the bike. Although I’ve only ridden the ST once, immediately it feels much better quality and much better put together and that’s without looking at the spec sheet. Motor wise, the Hyper is a lot noisier and less refined than the triple, and the throttle and clutch is more on/off/snatchy compared to the smoothness of the Triple. Grunt wise, the Triple feels quicker and much more nimble, easier to throw into corners than the Hyper. The Hyper is a great urban bike which is what I bought it for and it’s great for commuting on and A road blasts but it’s awful on motorways due to the upright riding position and lack of screen, essentially creating a huge windbreak out of the rider. I was utterly wrecked when I rode it from London to Nottingham last year and have rarely left London on it since and wouldn’t do a long ride on it again. The Hyper has served me well and has been a great introduction to “big bike” ownership but I don’t think I will regret trading it in...
