So now we've got the new watercooled T120's, Street twins, Thruxton R etc, does that now make earlier models such as my carbed '06 T100 now a 'Classic' ? I only ask this because someone commented to me that 'classics' must start somewhere and it's usually when newer models are produced.. (PS, I wish I still had my old Mk1 GOlf !!)
Just about anything with carburettors will soon be considered classics, methinks. Well, apart from a petrol driven lawnmower ... that'd be silly - wouldn't it??
I'm biased, but i think the Scrambler and T100 range are classics in the making. I see them as the last of the old bikes made with modern methods, whereas the T120 range are very definitely modern bikes, made to look cool. EU Regs is probably the main driver, but I think the target market has a lot to do with it too. I'm implying that I'm one of the last of the "50-something old gits" who remember the original bikes and might even have had one in their youth, whereas the new range is targeted at "kids" of 40 or so, who would not have that direct connection, but appreciate a good thing when they see it.
