Hello everyone! I'm John, in Sacramento, California, USA. I'm in my late 60's, and I've been riding since 1969. I joined the Triumph Forum because I finally decided I liked the Thunderbird Sport and the Trophy SE, but I can't find any new ones near me because Triumph has killed these two models. Does anyone know why?
Thanks Tiglet. I'm new to being in a forum, but I thought I'd join this one, to try to find out why they killed the Thunderbird and the Trophy SE, two bikes I think should be in my garage. Anyone?
Hi mate and welcome Triumph like other manufacturers bring new models out and drop models from their range Have a look for good second hand bikes or test ride new models

Hi and welcome to the forum . Triumph dropped those models I assume because they're just not that popular anymore. Too many people buying Tigers and Bonnevilles!
Sales, profit, production capacity, competition, marketplace trends, future plans........ Adventure bikes, retros and naked seem to have partially eclipsed cruisers and heavyweight tourers......for now. Sportsbikes struggle on.
Welcome to the forum! Triumph had a difficult time competing with BMW (and others) on the Trophy SE. It was really a good bike, but the electronic controls weren't very sophisticated. It was also pretty uncomfortable for some of us after a couple of hours. Like any company, if the sales numbers aren't there, they will drop the product. You can find super deals on used Trophies if you can be certain of their condition. You might have to travel a bit or pay for shipping, but it could be worth it. Check out Cycle Trader for their listings. You can probably find some left over new ones at the dealers and get some off the list price.
Hi Roadsport and welcome! Definitely agree with comments above, you can find both models to add to your garage. Be patient and search thoroughly! There is also a possible option on this forum where members that are able and willing to assist by arrangement of course, go out to view on your behalf if say you find a potential bike that sparks your interest but it is far away from where you stay. Did anyone say this is the best forum or what ! Good luck in finding the models you're after.
Welcome, Roadsport. Thunderbird was one of Triumph's early bikes which were dropped when carburettors were replaced by fuel injection systems, mainly for emission reasons. They are good solid bikes which were (like all the carb'd bikes) built like brick shithouses to bury reliability issues from previous Triumph incarnations. As you will have noticed, they do have their followers (e.g. Bikerman), and many others, myself included, have variations on the 900 triple theme ('95 Trident, owned from new, 52,500 miles). If you have a soul you will love it! Trophys were never a big seller as far as I know, which will be why they were dropped from the range. Good luck with your search.
From one new member to another, welcome.. You are a man after my own heart. I really like both of the models you mention. Waiting on the dealer to get the title to a 2017 trophy for me. I think the Trophy went away due to increased competition and decreasing market share. My only concern is the lack of dealers but after having a Guzzi I should be used to that.
Welcome aboard mate. Enjoy the ride. There's only so many models a brand and dealerships can support. But there will be new model launches next year. I anticipate a new or updated sports tourer.
