Scrambler main stand or not

I've got a scrambler and I'm thinking I need a main stand fitting, just to make it better for tyre and wheel /general maintenance rather then a bike jack or lifts.just a bit concerned about if having a main stand fitted would look crap on the scrambler, anyone got one on there scrambler please post pictures if you have or any other info much appreciated and safe riding

 

You could always go for an Abba stand instead for maintenance purposes and is most probaly around the same price.

I've avoided fitting a main stand on my Tiger 800XC, why add weight unless you need too. Got a paddock stand for maintenance.

 

One of the first things I did when I got my America was add a centre stand.

I had a Scrambler for a week while my America was being sorted and the lack of a centre stand was a real pain. I managed 500 miles in that time and cleaning and lubing the chain effectively was very difficult. Paddock stands are all well and good but if you're touring you can't carry them with you. Also if the bike lives outside (like mine) it means finding somewhere to store the stand.

 

Ive had many a bike without a centre stand & when I do always tell myself never never again!

 

Get a centre stand!

Paddock stands are OK if you have help, getting a bike onto one can be a bit tricky.

ST a pig to get onto stand, Beamer RT a piece of pxxs, Explorer not easy but manageable

I've got a 2007 Bonny and when the chain needed servicing I had the same problem. My normal rear paddock stand wouldn't fit. I liked at Abba stands but they didn't list the correct fittings for my bike. A dedicated paddock stand is available for around £65 but one of the guys on here pointed me at techbikeparts. Centre stand kit for £69.99 job done. Easy to fit and now I can access the rear wheel anywhere. They do one for the scrambler as well.

 

thanks to you all for all your wise words. Stevie67 I went your way with techbike parts got the center stand for my scrambler fitted it back in February cheers for the heads up !!

 

Had to remove the centre stand on the Bonnie when I fitted the new, upswept exhausts - stand then fouled the chain. Could fabricate a new stop but have left the stand off for now - it weighs 2.5kg. Had no real issues without it - I just roll the bike forward to lube the chain - not sure I'll put it back.

 

yeah that's it steve horses for courses so to speak, spose you could fit a scotila though

 

Yeah - thinking about it. The biglad had one on his Bonnie and swore by it. Next job possibly!

 

Hi Steve, I suggest you fit a Scotoiler on your bike like I have on mine. You'll never need to manually oil your chain again, ever !! Plus your chain will last forever.

I've had a Scotoiler for the last 200,000 mls and never needed a chain and sprocket set.

Re the centre stand - I had one on mine for awhile but due to the longer rear shocks the back wheel didn't clear the ground and it was far too close to the chain when it was up, plus it weighed a ton and as you know I'm VERY particular about the weight my bike carries

 

A simple idea to get you out of a fix when no centre stand exists:

 

Pretty much on the "to do" list now Dave - like you my shocks are longer than stock (off a Scrambler) so the centre stand didn't lift the rear wheel off the ground anyway making it pretty much useless.
