Just picked up my first ever Triumph yesterday. Bloody lovin' it. Stuck a hundred miles on it straight away. It's a 94R by the way - 2015. Now, the seat... it is loose, as in , I can get off the bike and then lift it off with my little finger. It seems to me that it slots into the two winglets by the tank fine but the metal prong at the back does not latch into the hole. Do I need to give it a firm jump on/push or is this not a great issue anyway as the deat shouldn't fly off in use.. umm, then again, maybe it could if I went over a bump.
it does need a firm push,but i would take it back to the dealers if it's not locking into place properly
+1 what Dougie says..... But it seems to be a common problem (especially when new), I and others on here have made it easier to latch by putting a washer under each end of the latch where it screws down to the sub frame. This raises the latch a millimeter and makes the seat easier to fasten. You want to make sure it does latch a) for safety and b) so you can use the storage underneath and be safely locked away when parked up. Hope you bought a black one, they're definitely faster. (2,000mls into mine and still can't stop ing) Welcome and enjoy.
Cheers for that. Will give both a try. Nah, it's the faster yellow one. I have had yellow cars before and it was well known that yellow paint was the fastest paint there was due to the lower density used in the yellow dye. I believe this was scientifically proven hence my sports car buying decision. Metallic colours are the heaviest, with Mat Black being the worst with Met Green next. Gloss black is the next heaviest afte the metallics so I would suggest removing the paint immediately or at least using sandpaper to take away the mojority which has the added benefit of making the tank easier to grip.
You're a loony!!! (You will, therefore, fit in perfectly hereabouts!). Incidentally, my Trident's seat has always required a hefty thump with a heavy fist (luckily I always have one to hand) in order for it to lock into place. Been like it from new and has never varied. Probably never will!!
I found the best technique I've come up with on mine which is also fookin tight is to get your elbow on the center of the pillion pad or just in front of the cover if you have that fitted and give it a shove using your shoulder weight.Using your elbow seems to help overcome the dampening effect the seat foam has which stops the impact reaching the latch.
They've always required a good thump. Just pop a couple of washer under the latch and it will click in lovely
Same bike here...94r, i had same issue but after looking at locking mechanism i realised that once you think the seat is in place. thump it forwards and downwards at the rear of seat towards the tank. pretty sure yours will be the same
