Can anyone offer some advice for replacing the OEM front and rear turn signal bulbs with LEDs on a 2016 America? I replaced the rear with LEDs and now they flash very quickly. When I replaced the front, the signals would not works at all. Thanks for any tips, advice and info.
I'm not sure what kind you have or if you can change the way the bulbs are inserted, but remember LEDs only work with current flow in one direction, not like regular bulbs.
LEDs require a different type of flasher unit to work correctly the std unit will just do as you describe due to the loadings. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=LED+flasher+relays&_sacat=0
Under the fuel tank, take the tank off and switch bike on with kill switch in the OFF position turn the indicators on and track down the noise of the relay cutting in and out. I put leds in my console and tail light 08/09 America. you can see the warning/idiot lights in almost full daylight now, full direct sun from over your shoulder ? bit harder but still visible?
What Peps said sounds like the better answer than mine. But why remove the tank? If these are just load resistors, why can't you just cut then in right before bulb socket and tuck them in the turn signal housing? Are the too large? Also it would be awesome to replace the orange lens cap with a clear one and an orange LED. Anybody done that? Thanks!
Tank off to find the indicator flasher can, so you can replace it with led compatible option or install just one ballast inline ! I've done clear lenses with orange incandescent globe's, LED's wouldn't be too difficult ! I'm going to look into them in near future.
