i've had my triumph thruxton for about 5 months now,its not showing to being NOT insured on the motor insurance database (MIB),i have a valid insurance policy, start date 1st september 2015,its worth checking yours, the D.V.L.A. are trying to fine me £100 for not having VALID INSURANCE,i have posted a load of paper work including a copy of my insurance policy to the D.V.L.A. to prove i have insurance, the only people who can put it on the database are the company you are insured with,as you can imagine i'm well fed up with the hassle.
Hi TW, what a ball-ache!!! I can imagine how you feel - can't resolve it and yet getting threatened with a DVLA fine -Bûgger !!! Can you - ahem - mention it to your insurer and tell them to get their arse in gear?
i phoned them and sent about 8 email's regarding this, they sent me an email the other day telling me it was on the database, then another followed telling me it isn't on the database.with a bit of luck they will get the underwriter's to do there bit and get it put on the system.
This is something that has concerned me for a while. Holding all this info on a large data base is OK as long as it's accurate. Standing on the side of the road trying to convince a copper that you have got insurance/road tax could be a real ball ache. If it's 8 o@clock on a Sunday morning and they can't get hold of DVLA etc where do you stand, and don't say on the side of the road.
Hi Steve and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours. I completely agree with your sentiment but my guess would be that it's easier for the DVLA to fine an individual than an insurance company. I also wonder if the law was written such that it is the policyholder's responsibility to ensure the system is up to date - yes I know that sounds ridiculous, but who is the more powerful lobby, the insurance industry or an individual?
as ridiculous as it sound's IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POLICY HOLDER TO MAKE SURE IT'S ON THE M.I.D.
It's my absolute pleasure mate. Have had loads of support from this forum last year so just trying to "pay forward" as I believe the Americans call it.
an update on what's happening regarding my problem with the thruxton not showing as insured on the MOTOR INSURANCE DATABASE,they have renewed my policy for 12 months as from today the 4th of jan for 12 months at no extra cost.
You can check to see if your vehicle is on the database for free using this link. http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/askmid.aspx
Glad you got it sorted at last. Thanks for the link Rooster - the Trident and the Enfield are both on there (so is the Saab for that matter).
You can always log a formal complaint - The 'target' for Insurers is to have any policy changes/inceptions etc on the MID within 7 days. The problem you can find with this is if you are insured through a broker (which is more than likely the case) it is the Underwriter's responsibility themselves and all the broker can do is keep chasing them to get it updated. Is your registration correct (no 'O' in as '0' that sort of thing) and spaced correctly on your policy documents.....as I have known this sort of thing to cause issues in the past! "as ridiculous as it sound's IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POLICY HOLDER TO MAKE SURE IT'S ON THE M.I.D." It is only the insured's responsibility to ensure there is adequate cover to meet the criteria of the Road Traffic Act before using or allowing a motor vehicle to be used/kept on the public highway. Updating the MID remains the responsibility of the Underwriter......and they can be fined for not doing so. The DVLA 'fine' just requires you to prove you were insured and once done, tends to quickly go away......it is automatically generated based on their database showing as not being insured and not SORN.
if only life was so simple,in my case it isn't....you try proving your insured,i sent a copy of my policy & all the email's to the D.V.L.A.,regarding the triumph not showing as insured on the M.I.D. last friday i received a letter from the D.V.L.A.i couldn't believe there reply a £100 fine, reduced to £50 if paid before the end of the month.what more proof do they want,i've contacted the broker & they are willing to pay the fine.i told my broker that the underwriter is at fault not me.i'm absolutely disgusted over all of this, you pay for insurance & get nothing but grief.RANT OVER !!!!!! i think i will be going elsewhere next year.
I feel for you TW, it's completely mad. "You're not on the list !!!!" - "But I can't access the list?" "That doesn't matter - give us £100 !". "At least have the decency to wear a mask and point a gun at me, if you're going to rob me!!"
