Afternoon everyone. On my beloved thruxton I have had several indicators .just as I get a set that are dazzlingly bright I get a problem. I have a squaredeals dual indicator relay. With this you can use a mix of incandescent & led types & get the correct flash rate. This had worked fine up til now & I don't think it's the problem.....so what is the problem I hear you cry interestingly???? Ok, all 4 led 3 watt Cree chipset indicators flash at the correct rate as & when needed... But, the idiot light on the rev counter stays steady Green! I have checked the wiring, disconnected the front indicators & changed back the original relay albeit the fast flashing rate It just don't make sense. Come you brainy lot....rack your brains & throw some ideas my way....please!
No hazards. All was ok til today. Just wondering if it's a printed circuit board in the rev counter as opposed to a bulb & it's shorted out I'd of thought that the pulsing power to the led's would also feed the idiot light.....but I've been wrong before
Hopefully it isn't the printed circuit in the instrument panel itself? As that could get expensive?[/QUOTE] I can put a separate idiot light in I guess, but I'd like to find out what it is first.
I think we'd better keep that to ourselves.... Well there is a guy who I googled who repairs them (VDO rev counters)....if I don't get any joy from the usual suspects on here I may well send him an email & see what he thinks.
I'm sure I read something about this on the dark side (the triumphratnet forum). From memory it can be a common problem but I can't remember the solution, but may be worth checking out.
Hi Steve, Ive searched the Darkside more than Darth Vader, but I cant find anything about this problem. There is plenty on there about all 4 indicators flashing at once when led`s are fitted & that a company do a diode kit to compensate for this, but the problem I have there`s nowt. Ive looked at the wiring diagram via a Haynes manual & it looks straight forward to me apart from the relay both original & the one i have on there now is shown in the manual as a 3 pin & mines always been a 2 pin...perhaps that has something to do with it.......I just don`t know whats wrong & it`s frustrating that`s for sure. Still...on wards & downwards I guess
