    Hi
I have a Bonneville 1978 which I purchased last year and was told it was an import - it was registered with DVLA in 2016 so have a V5 from that date onwards however I'm not sure if I need any documentation prior to that to support it when I come to sell the bike.

Can anyone advise me what I would need to do please.

I think you'll find that - in a UK sale situation - from a legal viewpoint the UK V5 will be sufficient, however if I were buying the bike I would want to have enough paperwork to prove which country it was originally registered and when - if only for when ordering parts.

When a vehicle is imported into the uk then a Nova certificate is issued as proof that all taxes have been paid.
The Nova certificate is part of the documentation that is then send to the DVLA when the vehicle is registered.
I don’t think you get it back, but may be wrong.

Always always always, scan or copy any original documents before you send them off to be processed. I prefer scanning because that means I have good quality copy that I can print or e-mail, should I need to.

My Trident T160 is similar shows 92 as first registration but also on V5 it says declared manufactured in 76

I'm trying to verify this with the specialist in the Triumph club before attempting to get it classified as historic for zero tax etc
