Hi , I recently had shorts TORs slash cut pipes fitted , riding home from central London yesterday (25 miles) approx 15 miles of filtering through heavy traffic , not easy on an Tri Amr , I noticed the pipes where very hot and when I got in they looked to have started to discolour at the cylinder head end ?? is this normal , or a problem caused by the TORS pipes, or just a combination of very hot weather / slow moving traffic ? Its a 2 parter !..... Also tick-over seems to be running a bit high , how easy it to adjust the tick over on 2007 865 carb model for a 5 thumbed spanner DIY'er The pipes sound great but it was definitely roasted nuts on the menu yesterday !
tick over is easy to adjust I have an adjuster just below the left hand carb , you might have to get the mixture adjusted ,do you get any popping if so then will need to get a bit of adjustment ,hope this helps :upyeah:
Thanks found it , will give it a try and see if it makes any difference , otherwise its Jack Lilley's for a spot of retuning !
Thanks found it , another stupid question , understand tick over rev's should be around 1000 rpm , without a rev counter how do you tell ? or is it just sounding right and not cutting out ? cheers !
Mike Without getting all technical best suggestion would be to do it by ear when it is cold and make sure it isn't too fast when it get hot. Remember when I was growing up my father taught me to listen to engine when doing the timing and also to put a screw driver against the engine and put your ear against it to try and see where the noise was coming from (works really well) Cheers Steve
Without the optional extra rev counter then yes, you will have to adjust it by ear. You don't want it too low so that it sounds like a Harley though. Got mine ticking over at just below 1100rpm.
If you do the A.I removal this is suppose to eliminate the header discolouring. Personally my headers have never discoloured even with the TORS fitted but i have also since done the A.I removal too.
I go to Essex twice a week and the tail-backs at the tunnel can be 5 miles long which means a lot of filtering Although I love the America one downside is how hot it seems to get in heavy traffic when the temp is in the mid-20s or higher. Very uncomfortable indeed. No blueing of the pipes though in 12k over the past year through all sorts of temperature.
