2002 Speed Triple 955i On the back of my airbox there are 4 holes (or pegs to take tubing). Can anyone definitively say what they are for? A - drain hole? B - breather from the crankcase C - I don't know. The tube needs to go somewhere though!? D - I don't know. The cover has both a lip on its edge and also a gasket, so great pains have been taken to get it to seal appropriately...so then why all these 'holes'? Except the crankcase one....that is the only one that makes sense. Then, second photo....is that the plug to a pc for diagnostics? Thanks all!!
B would seem to be the crankcase breather, the others could be drain tubes. The electrical plug maybe the fourth injector connection, the loom will be compatible with a four cylinder model, Def not a diagnostic port, not enough contacts.
For what it's worth, A is flush on the inside, suggesting it IS a drain hole. The other three all have 'pegs' or posts on the inside so the hole is raised off the base of the case. If that makes sense...
DanielB You know there are loads of inmates on here that know about plugging holes. Is it 675 and I will ask my boy where they go Regards Joe.
Thanks Joe MC Donald. It's a 2002 955i Speed Triple. My understanding is... A - drain hole B - crankcase breather (this is obvious in that I know for sure. I disconnected it and remember doing so). C - this connects the airbox to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel tank and helps with pressure of fuelling...(or something). I know this has definitely been disconnected from the fuel tank in recent weeks and likely accounts for some poor performance recently. D - unknown... But, open to being educated!
DanielB I forwarded the pictures to my boy. When he comes back to me I will tell him its a 955 but it honestly looks identical to his 675's. But he might be able to throw some light on it for you. He runs in circles that work and race bikes al the time. Got my fingers crossed for you. Regards Joe.
That's really good of you, thank you Joe McD. What/where is the diagnostic plug/socket on these bikes...17 pin isn't it? I can't see one anywhere that big or obvious..
I think the three holes on the inlet manifold are for vacuum tubes, which should connect to an IACV (Idle Adjustment Control Valve) but it's not in the picture ???? The plug is to give an electrical signal/supply to operate the solenoid within the IACV. The OBD port is almost certainly the large black plug in pic 2.
Thanks thebiglad... I have found the pc connection (photo below). It does seem - but open to education - that 3 of the 4 holes on the airbox are identified. Drain Crankcase breather Fuel pressure regulator But the fourth? Is that part of the EVAP system, is that what you are referring to? This isn't on the throttle body....this is on the airbox (just to clarify). The second photo below shows the EVAP system. It looks like (#1) that one of the tubes from my fuel tank (vent pipe) should be connected here...? When I Itfirst took the tank off I am sure that the two tubes (bottom left of the tank) had two rubber hoses on and they were just hanging down and out the bottom of the bike (the two tubes from the tank - overflow and drain). But...should the vent pipe really be plugged in to the EVAP as per the diagram? Goodness....this is confusing...
Hi mate, it's great that you found that diagram about the EVAP system - which is only required in limited markets such as California - however the diagram clearly shows component no. 7 as the IACV which in most markets has a simplified vacuum plumbing set-up without parts 1 - 6.
Thanks. And, I didn't mean to confuse things... The EVAP is an interesting thing (that I've learnt all able this evening with a bar of toblorone and cheap whiskey), and relates, possibly, to "a dangling pipe from the fuel tank", but is unrelated to my airbox holes... So, if anyone wants the kudos points for identifying that last peg/hole (#D on the original photo)...it's all to play for!!
DanielB The boy says he is not really sure and he is away for a while. He mailed but only to say this. Easier enough to work out from the sizes though One will be a drain, the other probably a breather for the crank and a secondary air system but that is just guessing The plug he thinks is for tuning and probably doesn't attach to anything. Sorry I know that doesn't help much. Why not try you tube for a better answer. If not maybe when he gets home I might persuade him to drive to and lend a hand. Regards & Sorry. Joe.
DanielB The big plug here I would say at a guess it for the Datatool alarm system and should either have an alarm or a bypass connector. Just a guess. Regards Joe.
Thanks JoeMcD (and the boy), much appreciated. Maybe that's it...the final one is for the secondary air system - which I know the bike doesn't have... So it's just a moulding 'if needed'. I am pretty sure that I found the pc connection plug (phot previously) the alarm/immobiliser I've located and can see the bypass connections on it. This has all been really useful...I've learned a lot! Thank you all!
DanielB Sorry to b of so little help. But the boy said just try and they should be pretty well self explanatory. I do wish you all the luck in the world mate. Joe.
