Info needed please. Do I really have to put hi viz stickers on my lid to ride in France. I haven't been over there since they introduced this rule. What would happen if you didn't bother. TIA.
Hi Johnjo, I have been round France for a week each year over the last couple of years with no stickers and am due to go again in a month. None of us have been stopped and have passed plenty of Police, And I never saw any French motorcyclists with hi-viz on their helmets. I take this advice from the AA which states that you should have a reflective vest in case of breakdown. https://www.theaa.com/european-breakdown-cover/driving-in-europe/driving-in-france Hope this helps.
I was under the impression that this is no longer law in France. Have them on my lid though from tours in 2015/16/17. Bulbs, high viz vest and alcohol testing kit required
All this gear to be carried on a motorcycle??? I smell a rat, DD trying to sell some more POS Top boxes!!!
Never bothered with the helmet stickers the last three times I've been to France. Carry spare bulbs and a vest but never carried the Breathalyzer kit. Just don't ride like a dick and they'll leave you alone
Breathalyzer kit is required legally but there's no fine or anything if you don't have one. The French didn't like it and it was easier to remove the punishment than repeal the law apparently.....
Thanks for the info and the laughs guys. Exactly what I was hoping to hear. My mate, Mr goody two shoes, has already stickered up his lid.
Je ne pouvais pas accepter plus, il est vraiment une chose horrible, presque aussi laid que leurs propriétaires
Whats the requirements for bulbs with a bike factory fitted with LED's? A 'spare bulb' would be a complete unit, i.e. a full headlamp or rear light unit! Any update on the law?
All this french law/requirement is just BS to be honest. I was out this morning with a few gendarmes on a 'training ride' - nobody asked me about my motorcycle helmet reflective stickers/breath tests/noisy exhaust/spare bulbs etc etc etc. Just don't ride like a complete dick. Part-time dick is OK
Seems like the breathalizer rule has no fines, so dont count, and it seems too the bulb laws are not enforced either, nothing like a good google on a Sunday morning!
They used to enforce the bulb law. Last time I was over there I saw 2 gendarmes standing over a female motorist watching her change a headlight bulb. It looked like they had pulled her over and were making sure she changed the bulb there and then. Off on my 3 week tour later this morning. ( without helmet stickers )
I was dead against putting stickers on my brand new Bell helmet, but after chatting to a few people, and seen as last year I was going to be spending a while in France, I decided I'd minimise the risk of dealing with the French fuzz and put some of these on my helmet: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotchlite-Reflective-Helmet-Stickers-Rectangles/dp/B00TFP8KQW My helmet is black and these are black and only show when light is shined at them, so a police car behind can see them.
