    T. E. Lawrence was a bastard, as were his brothers and sister(s?), so took his mum's name cuz their dad was already married.

It is very true that he was illegitimate, that in no way detracts from the fact that without him the outcome of the First World War could have been much different.

The Arab Revolt was certainly a turning point against the Ottomans. Top bloke was Lawrence, unlike the devious French and British Governments that reneged on promises he among others had made in good faith to the Arab leaders.

Indeed, a lot of the existing Middle East problems of that time were fuelled by the betrayal of the Arab leaders and the arrogance of the West but centuries of religious turmoil would never have been corrected in this most complex of regions.

The rear window wiper on a 08 Freelander is virtually the same as that fitted to 08 fiesta and fusion, but cost way less.
So when it fails because of crap design, you buy the Ford one (both made by valeo), which doesn't rust and seize, and swap the broken parts over for 1/4 of the price.
Admittedly this is only good to know if you have a Freelander with a bust rear wiper. :D

That is outside the New York Stock Exchange, it's amazing how many perverts have their pictures taken abusing that poor bull.

Been to Clouds Hill - the isolated cottage where he used to live (now a National Trust property).
Good place to visit on the way to the Tank Museum!

According to my old Dad, the quickest way to kill a dog was to put it on it's back and then grab it's front legs and spread them apart.

Quite difficult if it's clamped onto your arm / leg !!!

Plus that's more missionary, than the buggery that DD's suggesting ;):D

Yes, Ive visited most of the places and studied TEL, a most interesting and complex character.
Go to the Saxon church at Wareham, there is a marvelous alabaster effigy of TEL by Augustus John

Lord Baden Powell in his 'Scouting for Boys' manual instructs you on how to handle vicous dogs:
"One takes ones handkerchief and wrapping around the index finger on both hands, offer the centre taught portion to the offending dog, as the dog bites the handkerchief deliver a swift kick under the lower jaw"
    Job done!

Thought my wiper advice for stuck rear wipers on Freelanders was useful !!! Admiteddly only for people who own a Freelander, but I am sure there are some other Triumph / Freelander owners out there.

The Magic roundabout was written and narrated by Eric Thompson, father of Emma Thomson, (who happens to live just around the corner from my mum, in Dunoon). Supposedly the scripts are littered with drug references and when writing them, he enjoyed a little 'smoke'.

ANd although it was French, he actually hated the French !!!

    I like him a little more now:D

There has been a lot of good publicity about the Settle to Carlisle railway line over the last week or so.
Steam train rides offered at £17.50 instead of £200+
Certainly some of the finest scenic railway views anywhere in the country.
The full line journey is from Leeds to Carlisle, but the scenic stuff starts just after Keighley.
If you haven't travelled the line before you are in for a real treat.
You can even use the journey to recce out some biking routes.
Ps. Don't go when it's foggy!
