I've done several modifications to my Bonneville, nothing too drastic and mostly to improve its looks.
When I starteded out my budget was limited and I was not really sure what direction I was headed in, so with that in mind I sourced some electrical parts from the Far East at very low cost.

It is now on my mind that the indicators and rear light are not E marked so not actually legal. The exhaust is also a little loud but does not have a "not for road use" stamp so is not too big a deal.
This has not been a problem when getting an MOT as I have been using the same tester for 35 years and he is a cool dude and as long as everything works he will overlook such trivialities.

I am now thinking that if I were involved in an accident an insurance company could reneg on a claim if the bike is fitted with non E marked electrical (lighting) components.
Is it worth taking such a risk? E marked lights and indicators are more expensive sure, but not getting them could be a false economy in the long run.

    Your thoughts and/or experiences please.

No idea really, however insurance companies being the legalised pirates that they are can be expected to wriggle out of any claim they can in any way they can, that's how I see it

I don’t think they would say anything about lights unless they really stand out to be different

I doubt an insurance assessor would look for e-marking on lights. Or the exhausts.

Maybe I'm being overly sceptical, but I am concerned about how slippery insurance companies can be. I've had bad experiences with insurance claims in the past.

I'm thinking more about a claim made against another driver in a non fault accident.

I had exactly that. No problem with paying out.
