Spot on all of the above by Mr O, If for any reason I'm not able to attend the GMU then I don't, if I can be there I will be there its that simple, for me its hostel or camping dont have the wedge for hotels or B&B's as said each to our own. I still think its worth Mr O looking into the Bellingham hostel and requesting possible sole use even if final decision is a few days away, time is crucial.
I've tried the sole use thing, only way is if you pay up front a big chunk of money. Then hope you'll get it back. I won't gamble my money that way, so wouldn't expect anyone else to do. They way it has worked for the last three years, is for organiser to arrange with the owners which dates, then folk rang up and booked in. Has worked so far. But it needs to happen as early as possible to ensure no hiking freakjobs get in before we start to fill it up. (My pal shared with some very sweaty, smelly hikers once - not nice. He described the smell of their feet/socks as smelling like rank cheese - your dog had ate, and then thrown up ) (I once shared with some very nice Swedish girls tho' )
I think it would be better as a seperate ride out . maybe not a .GMU. due to some not willing to travel. So we can look at it later and work out a plan to include road racing and maybe different venues on route.
I'd have to be best friends with Mr Nice, Howard Marks to have imagined you two were Swedish goddess !!!! Even a year ago when loaded up with morphine and Fentanyl, could I not mistake you for anything attractive
Just realised it was a year ago today that I got wiped out by the cement truck! Ouch, won't be in a hurry to do that again. (The Fentanyl was good shizzle tho')
I'm going to have a run down to Callender on Sunday and check out the hostel..the only thing is it's about 1.5 miles from the town whether that's a problem I'm not sure.. there is also another hostel that's actually in Callender which sounds ideal so I'll check that one out too
It won't be a problem filling Bellingham's fifteen bunks. I'll happily foot* the upfront deposit for sole use if you'll organise the ride outs Ron. *on the proviso no-one takes the piss when I drop my bike ,,, or at least not go on and on about it.
Somebody here told me I was still young compared to most of the guys here. And now I'm not young enough... I thought it was women who can't make up their minds
Well guys, I have been following these threads with great interest and here is my take on it. I travel to Europe from Scotland every yr and although it’s a pain riding down south before getting a ferry or chunnel it’s worth it in the end for the awesome roads. Obviously it is impractical unless you have a couple of weeks to spare. But I am sure that the guys who did Dougie’s Scottish tour would agree that it was well worth traveling all that way for the awesome roads ang great weather. So although I would be happy wherever, for me Scotland has the best roads in the uk. Plus the fact that we are very lucky to have a person like Dougie who has extensive knowledge of the area and it’s facilities. You would be hard pressed to find anyone better, I say this as I have joined Dougie on several ride outs even though he lives over 100 miles from me and usually end up doing app 300 miles each time and it’s allways worthwhile, Dougie to my mind is a great representative for the forum and is always prepared to step up. How he finds the time baffles me, Dougie I salute you. Regards to all Lou
Actually, I was hoping for Scotland, been there once, and would love to go back by bike. I don't mind the long travel up north, or I'll have myself a ferry up there. Maybe I can join @BonnieCat if she's attending as well.
