Here is a wee screen shot for the ride on the Saturday of the GMU. I will also share this route on MyRoute App Triumph Forum page (Someone in group confirm they can see it ?). I have ridden around. I will give more details as requested. Click on map for a link to the Google maps page. Feel free to print off and bring, if you are prone to getting lost and or an eejit. Proposed stops at Carters Bar for those having never been over the border into Scotland, there is a petrol stop and gathering point in Hawick at the petrol station, run over to StMarys Loch, stop for refreshments and the view, before Moffat for lunch. Plenty of choice here and fuel also available. Blast down APR then across to Newcastleton for a break and then down Kielder, possible stop at Tower Knowe, or straight back, time dependant. Possible to lose people through Hawick and Selkirk, but hopefully not. I am proposing to split into a couple of groups, a maybe more spirited (for a Triumph America) group led by me and a volunteer TEC, then a second 'bimble' group, lead by a volunteer and TEC will be Winglad in his hire car. Both groups will be taking it relatively easy, this is no gixxer forum balls out race through the borders, group 1 will be close to the legal limits on roads, not blasting at silly speeds (If this is what you are after, see map, and go on your own - this is a group ride), just swinging through bends and cruising at 60~65~70 ish on the straights. From banter, I see there is probably a group happy meandering through the countryside and propose a 2nd group to make everyone happy'ish (all of the people, all of the time, etc). Please comment, but be nice, as a good kicking can sometimes offend !!! Edit- added link to myrouteapp I am going to try and get around the Sunday route, but I am struggling to find the time, once I have, I will post that up. Similar distance, but heading south.
Yep well done Mr O all good I can see and the link works well. Very well worked out route, I'm sure you will all enjoy this very much while I'm resting back at base in the sunshine (hopefully) talking shite with whoever should be there.
Thanks Mr O - Just clicked on the map, which opens google maps and I was then able to send it to my phone.
Looks good to me. Just the right length (no childish jokes please). I'll be in the slow group as I'm slow ( I also ride slow). Looking forward to it. Cheers Ron.
UPDATED POST This is the Sunday route. Click HERE for Google maps. Stops will be at Alston for fuel, Appleby for a break and food if required and a late lunch will be Hartside Café, quiet famous biker café, great view and sausage rolls, then a final stop at Hadrians Wall Roman fort. We will be stopping at Appleby-in-Westmoreland on the way along the A66, good place to stop and breaks the A66 crappy bit up (which actually isn't that bad). Might be an interim stop before Brough, as is a big distance from Alston to Appleby, so may be a good place to regroup. Route is now on Myroute.App Triumph Group, as well.
Haven't looked on my route app yet but I'm happy to go with the flow. Thanks for doing the leg work Mr O Not an area I know so looking forward to this.
Routes are looking good Ron me and the missus are up at fort William at the moment so will check it out when I get home regards to all Lou
Heres a strange thing.......I looked at our route and just out of the blue put the little man on Bellingham and this pic came up of a waterfall? I then noticed this strange looking Bird thing on the rocks ????
Wayne, you are OUTSTANDING (I started into the forum today with a headache... ...but now I have been laughing so hard, my head is fine again!) Wayne, the healer!
There is only the Saturday ride up, not put Sunday on yet. Guess Crispey meens the Friday routes I posted for him, as well? Look down and see Dumfries to Bellingham, that's our run on the Friday.
UPDATED post #6, Following my practise run / teaser, I have now set the route for Sunday. this now has links to the google map of the Sunday run. Also added to the Myroute.App group page.
Went for another practice run today. Used the Friday route to Kielder, the part of the Saturday run, from Bonchester Bridge to Moffat. Fantastic in the sunshine. Even took my trousers off, in a holy place!!!! Taken at Tower Knowe at Kielder Water.
I showed my partner the route for saturday and she started laughing, i said whats wrong with you?, she said i take it its all blokes by the shape of the run ........
Very elaborate phantasy, your partner. Keep a log about what she sees in clouds... Me, for example, I look much more like Spa-Francorchamps
