Hi everyone I need to replace the current flimsy garage door to something more stronger and secure. It's a single garage (7'7). I'm getting power and light installed. I'm thinking of double skinned aluminium electric roller shutter doors with good insulation and 4 point locking system. I'm quoted £1,600. Does this price seems ok? Safety of my bike is paramount. Also all my tools will be sitting there. So I just want to get a decent one. Thank you all for your support. Kind regards H
Sounds about a typical price for that. We had replaced our garage door last year but still went for an up and over. The door also had multi point locking as well. I just got a couple of door defenders and installed them. http://www.screwfix.com/p/squire-garage-defender/79478 these are what I'm talking about.
^^That defender looks solid. Cheers buddy Atleast the price I'm being quoted seems fair. I need to find a secure place to park my bike until I sort the garage doors and anchors. I'm thinking of a storage place. I need about 3 weeks to get it all sorted. I'll call a few places tomorrow and see what the prices are
I have one of those garage defenders and they are good. The lock has gone through winter without any tarnish and just a bit of wd40 and 3in1 keeps the lock clean and smooth. A worthy investment since the garages were targeted next door but mine was left alone.
Time to start doing research. DD...that's some serious piece of kit 1st thing tomorrow is to find a secure storage place until I get these sorted out. I'll keep you all posted
Jez If you dont mind an observation my friend - I think your frame hinges need at least a few dome headed bolts drilling through the actual frame, not just cross head screws !!! Agree though great looking solid doors, (Ready to be nicked lol) realise all alarmed with flashing multi coloured strobe lights, and no doubt a hidden machine gun
DD, I think Tez was referring to the hinge pin fastened to the frame with four wood screws. Without wanting to give away too much of your security features inside the doors, what if someone removed those screws ? Just playing devils advocate in case there is something you may have overlooked.
Sounds like a reasonable price to me R-1000, see if you can look at any other similar doors they have fitted in your area to satisfy yourself on the quality of materials and fitting. More bike related expense, it never stops!
^^^ Yep talk about expense. I saw other garages near my place and they don't inspire confidence. They are all normal up & over door. About 7-8 years ago, I had a similar garage rented away from the house. One morning I get a call from the fire services saying someone managed to break into my garage and set the whole thing on fire. Everything inside the garage went up in smoke. That garage wasn't even insured So now for my peace of mind, I want to ensure decent garage door, Anchor points, some form of alarm system that will pierce your ears if triggered. Also I am trying to find a decent electrician to get power and light to the garage. The garage is about 6m from the back of the house. I want to install a separate fuse box for the garage. So yep....expenses expenses . And I am itching to order the Maxton kit but security is priority now.
Spot on to Mick your exactly correct !! remove them four cross heads from each hinge on one side only and the full door would come away from the frame regardless of all other bolts you have in view DD. (Replace two of them diagonally on each with long dome heads and jobs a good un) Hope you get your heed roond that.
