That's great news Daniel - I hope you get the all clear and can get back to flying. I will be disappointed if you can't make the Mosel trip though.
Think in the positive Daniel, get back to work and get on the trip..... Life is all good, I hope it works out. Wessa
Hope everything works out well for you Danny Boy (and soon). I too hope we can have a beer or three together in Bad Bertrich.
So guys, I am just working on a way to share route data with you... I can plan routes on google-maps and share the data. So, THIS IS A TEST!!! https://goo.gl/maps/mB5oZr38RRt Can you all use this link to transfer the route to your satnav-device?
Hi given my recent experience with MyRoute and my Garmin SatNav, I will just replicate the route in Garmin Basecamp. Is this a final route or do you intend to modify it?
I can open it in google maps and transfer it to my phone! Not sure if I can transfer it to my satnav though. By the way it says: "This route crosses through Belgium." but that's never bothered you boys before!
That's dandy Daniel (very good). I haven't got a sat nav but hopefully some wizard will be able to download it to theirs.
No, it is just a test. I made a bucket list of the sights you guys said, you‘d like to see. This is the list: https://www.google.com/maps/placelists/list/1Ilg-aIyHualOygbInWQB25ZUhxY?hl=de (You can see that Monschau is quite offset...) From this, I intend to plan 1, or 2 routes for us and try them before we meet. I am still toying with google maps and I am not too excited about their software, but my old nav-software went bankrupt and was not able to share routes anyway... I think some of you use MyRoutes !? Can you transfer their routes to your smartphone?
We still have some time. Regardless of the ‚linky-stuff‘, I will provide you with the different waypoints addresses or coordinates separately! I like using the good ole map as well and bought a motocycle travel map... They offer tour-recommendations as well.
currently my route app will not transfer to a mobile, it used to through a 3rd party like sygic but this option seems to have disappeared which is a shame as more and more people are using their mobiles for navigation
So this could be a real tour-suggestion for seeing Monschau and some Eifel Maare (a circular volcanic landform, often filled with water, resulting from explosive ash eruptions) and also dropping by at the Nürburgring (if only for a sandwich ): Tour no.1: Hotel - Monschau - Nürburgring - Hotel https://goo.gl/maps/AUesKMbqag82 Cheers! (I still have to figure out, what happens, if you leave the route, or restart your nav-device; can you pick up the route again after interrupting?) Edit: I just found out: if the smartphone should for some reason close the app, you can alter the route and ‚jump in‘ from your present position!
OK Daniel. You can download your route off google maps to a satnav (at least to my Garmin Zumo). You need to use a free bit of software called gpsvisualizer -(http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/. Open this, and you can choose which option you want to convert from (in this case google maps) then simply copy the URL for your map into the program and it will convert it to a GPS file. You can then connect your satnav to your PC and simply drag and drop the GPS file into it. With Garmin, it gets stored in the Tracks application. Open this and select the route, press the spanner in the top LH corner and you will get options that allow you to show on map, and convert to trip - you can even set the colour of the route! You can also import to Basecamp but as I have never had any success using this (I much prefer myroute) I didn't bother.
Thanks Steve, that sounds good. In this case, I will continue planning with GoogleMaps. For all: if you have the app (Googlemaps) on your smartphone (Android or iOs), just import the routing link(s) via notes, mail, drag and drop or directly from this forum and click on it: the route will show up in GoogleMaps then and be ready to navigate (settings: avoid Autobahn/motorways). Additional info: as long as your device is not close to the starting point, you can only preview the routing instructions.
Hi Steve thanks for the information. I have managed to convert the goolemaps link to a GPX file and import it to Basecamp. I will try and get it onto my zumo. Wessa
Loaded them to my zumo. Only downside was that it loaded the nine parts as separate routes. I will go back to basecamp and work out the order of the run and then rename the routes on the zumo. Hopefully can get them in the right order. A bit of a fiddle, but definitely converts the googlemaps route. Wessa
