I am thinking of putting a set of "fat bars" on my 04 Speed Triple, does anyone know where I can get the 28mm handlebar clamps from. Thanks Brian.
If that's no good .. Have a look at an Aprilia dealers ... The Gen 1 & 2 Tuono are fitted with fat bars as standard so have fat bar risers as well ... If not there's always the Bay of E
Does this mean you'll need to modify/change all the handlebar equipment as well? Eg clutch and brake gear, electrical switchgear?
Not usually a requirement as most (if not all) Fat bars taper down to a standard 7/8 ths where the switchgear etc sits .. Aprilia & Renthal definitely do
Ah that explains it then. Thanks Toad. Just as a matter of interest, why would peeps want to change to "Fat bars" if at the ends they are the std diameter? Is it just for the look or are there some other benefits?
Gives it a chunkier look to the bars ... There's also a possibility that the extra weight (tho minimal) may help with vibrations through the bars .. The Aprilia's have fat bars as standard and for a big high compression V twin there's hardly any vibes through the bars
Thanks for the replies, I eventually stuck with 22mm bars, I got a pair of Renthal Ultra Low alloy superbike bars in black for £28, they are almost exactly the same length, sweep and rise of the originals. The only reason I was going to go for fatbars was for the look, I was going to fit black bars anyway to add extra blackness to my all black SE model but in the end it would have been too expensive, I paid £80 for a pair of silver Rizoma fatbars for my Gen 2 Tuono to replace the naff gold standard ones, so with the cost of 28mm clamps as well it wasn't worth it. I am really pleased with the look of the Renthals along with black levers and Gen 2 Tuono mirrors to replace the rather ugly standard ones.
