Well the Chinese almost rule the world economic trade...the cherry on top would be the cure for the virus. me cynical.
Coronaviruses have been around for many years, this is just a new strain of an old virus https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/types.html
and Spanish flu was just another influenza virus, but that didn't stop it infecting 500m (30% of the world population) with a 10% mortality rate. I've been watching this retired British Doctors YouTube channel, well worth a watch, he is calm, considered, and tries to stay with the known facts. The last minute is very sobering. Worth watching all his videos from this week. BTW our Government are still allowing flights in from China, don't fall for the bullshit PR exercise of quarantining British evacuees, it's a joke when you can still buy a ticket and fly over from Wuhan on a commercial flight.
Don't disagree mate - my point was that it's the medias ridiculous portrayals of these things which are exaggerated out of all proportion. If we're due a cold spell of weather for a few days the Daily Mail headline will be "-20 temperatures to hit Britain", The Express would go with "Mini Ice Age on the way". It's winter, it gets cold grow up! This is not the Black Death it's a strain of flu, the mortality rate of which is a apparently a tenth of normal flu.
The truth, which is in very short supply, is that we don’t yet know. However, your version of events is not supported by the way the Chinese authorities have reacted - not least containment of population and information. Their figures are wholly suspect. Frankly, most of the media have no idea what they are talking about and neither do the politicians. Between panic and indifference lies ‘concern’. I think that is the appropriate place to be right now. Watch and wait?
not sure where you read that, but the official Chinese figures which nobody believes have a mortality rate of ~2% 100 times more fatal than normal flu which is ~0.02% 400 dead, 20,000 infected. https://www.coronaviruslive.com/ John's latest video ...
This is a good link, it compares this new human coronavirus with known human coronaviruses. we may be witnessing the emergence of a new endemic "common cold" however as it is new, we have no immunity and older & vulnerable are suffering severe symptoms. Children may just get a bit of a cold from it, and in their later life have some immunity to protect them from developing pneumonia should they become reinfected. It's also quite likely that this will be seasonal, so if we can avoid a serious outbreak in the UK before the Spring, then we'll have until next winter to develop and manufacture enough vaccine and prepare the NHS to cope better with a pandemic next winter. https://www.statnews.com/2020/02/04/two-scenarios-if-new-coronavirus-isnt-contained/
Not so much crazy as utterly inconsistent - just like China’s massive reaction to ‘a novel but otherwise ordinary flu virus.’ It begs innumerable questions about source, virulence, statistics, treatment etc., because some things just don’t add up. China seems as concerned to quarantine the truth as much as people and I am no conspiracy theorist.
