Compulsory insurance and reg plates along with lighting and a MOT are the only way forward i believe. Oh and a Dot approved helmet.
One type of road user I do give consideration for is horses & their riders...I slow down, pull in the clutch on idle until I get past....they do thank me generally for this kind act. After all, you don't want that lot thrashing around near your pride & joy now do you?
We have a stable very close to us, so I am with you there, I know them they know me and so everything is good ..... But they still can be a pain in the ass !!! I just smile and give them a wave

Yes all put their hands up and nod, cyclists can be a different breed. Wednesday in Stafford one went over a pedestrian crossing on red with people waiting to cross !! I am told that some folk or cyclists can now share the pavements with pedestrians within the law ??
Each to their own I guess. Horses sense I fear them .But I still wouldn't want to see one hurt. Why it is as vehicle drivers we get annoyed that someone has pushed in in front of us yet think nothing of it if we were both pedestrian s walking along the same street & the same thing happens is a strange human phenomenon.
All of that sounds so familiar. My wife has horseyitus musthaveus but if I sold her nag I would be on bread and water for 10 years !!!!!! He's a nice lad actually, just a bit young and stupid.
My Su rides both motorbikes and horses, horse riders tend to show far more road awareness than push bike riders so they get my respect.
I'll go along with that, I always give them loads of space and slow down, leave my bike in a high gear with low revs. They are always highly visible, well mostly, out the other day around 6 in the eve on a small a road with tree cover and almost didn't see 3 riders, all blokes dressed in dull coloured clothes, had to brake suddenly and reduce noise, no response!
Second that Crispey. My experience is the same, well, except for two bints near me who spend too much time flapping their gums at each other when out for a gentle hack on their haybags. Other than these two, every other haybag drivers seem well aware when on the road
Whilst I give time & thought for horses & their owners....something that does feck me off is following horse boxes. Slow moving & pumping out Detroit levels of diesel fumes into my almost healthy lungs. Rant over.
Fecking cyclist. I pull up to the white line inside the 'cyclist kitten & puppy safe zone' as the lights had changed while I was approaching. With the box empty other than myself, a Lycra clad female rides up in front of me way over the line and encroaching the pedestrian crossing! I give a sarcastic 'Really - you're going to stop there?' - no response. Why do they do that, for what possible reason can this improve their safety or anyone elses...? The lights change and I blip the throttle as peds are crossing against the light, the female then shouts over her shoulder at me to 'F**k off'. And she isn't exactly pulling over to the left to let anyone pass, totally pissing off everyone behind her. So she was so vain that she though my blip was for her! I could almost image the self elevated shield of rightousnes she was emitting - she needs to realise it wouldn't protect her from her own stupidity though. I thought the better against blasting her with the 120db air horn
Tons of horse riders out here in the desert of Arizona. Most are situational aware. I always pull in the clutch and coast by them. Push bike people are road hogging 4 and 5 abreast on the back roads and are candidates for Darwin awards. They just posted a study stateside confirming that women are much more likely to road rage than men. These alpha bitches are dangerous and it is finally public knowledge. Am sure they ride push bikes too.
