Recently serviced and replaced throttle cable bike starts and ticks over fine but when out and about cuts out when comes to stop restarts ok any suggestions
What exactly did you do when you serviced bike? Did you replace plugs? Did you have carbs off? Valve clearances? Graham
my sprint has to have about one thousand revs tickover speed. any less and it cuts out too. My mechanic turns it down whenever he services it, I always turn it back up slightly. could be anything on your bike, as cam says above, and did you renew the air filter or reuse the old one?? mine had a birds nest inside the casing, certainly didnt help things, lol
Did have carbs off to replace throttle cable replaced air filter looked like it was their since leaving factory fitted new k&n changed plugs and oil
Did you fit new gasket when re fitting carbs, could be air leak causing cut out, and possibly gets worse as engine warms up. Or, it is possible for a new plug to be faulty, have you fitted same make and heat range plug?
No dave, I'm just ordinary.....uncomplicated and.......simple. I just smile when I don't know what's going on.....
I see you have changed to a k and n filter so assume you have split the airbox to fit it, I know some people have said that the k and n is a little bit big for the standard airbox ( have original triumph on mine so dont know), could it be that there is a small air leak and it is running a bit weak.
If you have changed to k&n filters it will be runnning a tad lean, I doubt you will need to change pilot jet, but you will definately need to adjust pilot screws after warming up. This could well be the reason it stalls when warm. when I discarded air filters altogether on my '80 T140E, I had to reduce the pilot jet size and screw the pilot screws in half a turn, its surprising how much restriction and change in set up filters make. I may be wrong, but if you take note of pilot screw position and try a 1/4 turn either way (depending if it controls fuel or air flow) you have nothing to lose and it will do no harm. What carbs do you have fitted ln bike?.........being an old fogey, I am acquainted with early Amals and "modern" Mikunis, but they all work on same principle of course.
I wil tell you those screws are bloody awkward, if i remember correctly, and I am sure I do, they are underneath the carbs and you need a special right angled screwdriver to get at them which costs a fortune, or take the carbs out, try turning the screws and put the carbs back on, and repeat till you get it right. There are botches available to make a tool yourself if you search. personally I think it would have been better to go down the route of buying a genuine part. So many folk have had probs with aftermarket and pod filters which go away with gen parts. Good luck anyway
Couldnt agree more, the carbs were so easy on my old Bonnie. It is a real pain getting them out of a Sprint, tbh I always pay someone if and when i need anything doing to them. My bike is heavy on juice and i know it needs the little O rings changing in the carbs ,probably some jet work too, but it will have to wait. It starts and runs nice, and very powerful, just doesnt like going past filling stations, lol.
Didn't split air box just trimmed filter too fit frame and sealed taken bike to local triumph mech he has said much the same as you guys so carbs are being tweaked at this moment thanks guys
