can anyone recommend a chain breaker riveter i have just broke mine changing a chain on a bike.it was a D.I.D lookalike that was the forth time i have used it and it cracked so if someone can recommend one that would be great.
Chain breakers/riveters really exemplify how with tools you get what you pay for. The £30 cheapie will struggle beyond a couple of outings and innings with the £70 intermediate marginally better and the £140 pro tool waltzing along indefinitely. For the few times we need them I reckon for many of us it is cheaper to grind off the old rivet heads and get your local workshop to press out the old link. I have seen a G cramp used to press home a new link and plate under careful control and without overdoing it......
If you grind off the rivet heads as in above post, one of the cheaper tools will suffice. Riveting up the new link is much easier on the tool than splitting an existing link.
This is a G clamp. https://www.screwfix.com/p/g-clamp-...Vy-vtCh3U6gIYEAQYBSABEgKuAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I think G cramp is some sort of ailment.
....much like the difference between duct tape and duck tape! https://technologystudent.com/equip1/cramp1.htm Clamp/cramp are interchangeable - clamp tends to be used more by engineers and cramp by woodworkers. Don’t get chippy!
I use and angle grinder to take off the links and a Whale tool to remove and relink the chain. Tried one of the cheapo ones, and that did 3 chains before it broke.
