I found one http://www.d2moto.com/products/1995-2003-triumph-thunderbird-900-o-ring-chain-and-sprocket-kit-black Would you recommend buying from them ?
Hi Michal, welcome and enjoy your ride. We are a uk based forum so to recommend dealers in USA is a bit difficult. Your best bet is to go onto triumphrat.net who are USA based and will have better knowledge. Good luck
shall we try sprag clutch?? lol yep been there, bloody expensive fix never heard of that make of chain, personally I would only use DID X ring chain or similar. I would count how many teeth you have on the sprockets if you can just in case it is not standard set up.Like the guys said before, the triumphrat.net site would be very useful to you, they have a dedicated forum for your bike. click on forums, then classic triples, do a search or ask away, job done. they seem to be very knowledgeable and I am sure they will be able to assist you. Good luck, great bike by the way
Read this it might clear a few things up, but to avoid failure, always have battery in good condition, try to start engine with clutch in and you can buy a bypass switch so that you can turn headlight off prior to starting.
Don't get too worried about the starter sprag clutch. It's one of those things that can, and does, happen when the battery is weak and slow to turn the engine over. And it can happen to any bike with an electric start fitted. My 1972 Suzuki GT550J suffered in this way. Before electric starters, the kickstart would 'kick back' and break your foot/ankle/leg or failing that would try to put you into orbit ... or at least throw you to the other side of your garage. Such is progress!! If you need reassurance, my '95 Trident 900 has basically the same engine as your bike, is one year older, has 49,600 miles (almost) on the clock and is still on its original starter mechanism, despite having had batteries of somewhat dubious health on several occasions over 20+ years of ownership. Currently fitted (last spring) with a Motobatt battery which easily spun the engine over yesterday after more than 4 months inactivity and producing an easy start!
