I use something very similar for my chains. To help things along I use a Dremmil thing to grind off hte pin head, then use the tool to just push the pin out. Easy enough to use, but do make sure you use the correct sized pin in the tool to match the chain pin, otherwise it could bend or snap....
This is the tool I was recommended, used it loads of times (you change the chain length a lot when drag racing.) and never had a problem. Just had a quick look round as I'm sure mine was more than £100 6 years ago !. It seems there's different ones according to the size of chain, so you may want to double check that. It looks like they do one for riveting only and one that breaks and rivets the chains. i.e. http://www.motorcycleraceparts.co.u...-riveting-tool-for-520-525-530-and-532-chains I've got the combined one, but if you have a grinder to use as a a chain breaker then you can save yourself £30-40
^^^ I wouldn't trust myself with a grinder. Knowing me I will end up grinding the whole rear :-( I will go with the combined one
Well, if it's any consolation, wellying the rivet out with the correct tool while using a 5lb club hammer is quite satisfying. Also, probably best to put something behind the chain if you don't want the rivet embedded in the wall
