Why is it all new custom bikes have a brown seat that is about as comfortable as a plank. Just asking for a friend ;):joy:

Wellington soldiers wore redcoats so that they did not show any blood from wounds. I imagine brown seats are trying to disguise the side effects of 'spirited riding'

I will go with that. But I think it's just that it is what most riders seem to prefer these days. Again Triumph listening to the market. But brown or black they all seem to come up un comfy. Except my 900 which I think is pretty good. Mind you I have not done any terrific long journeys yet. Nothing more than 100 miles. The Scottish trip will test it and me.
    Regards
    Joe.

The colour has no bearing on the comfort!

Dependant upon the cause of the colour.

    I said comfort, not adhesion.

Can’t say I like brown seats on any bike no matter the bike colour. It just makes me think of hipster tw@ts especially on bikes like my R9T or a Speed Twin.
I bought a bench type seat for my R9T as the standard seat was so uncomfortable. It’s a BMW one from their Scrambler which was a direct fit on mine, but it was only available in one colour.......brown.
I just had to get it recovered, and thankfully it’s very comfy and looks much better in black. :grinning:

I put a brown seat on my speed twin and in my mind it looks really well, always received lots of likes when I was out and about. Never thought of myself as a hipster tw@t either.......

Unfortunately hipsters now buy and ride ready made customs from the likes of the Bike shed and built by others...brown seats have been around for donkeys years and nothing new ...just another custom idea stolen and adapted for the trendy crowd.

Definitely in fashion. All the Indian models come with tan or brown saddles.

See that’s not bad looking Wessa, a pretty dark brown, though the quilting isn’t really to my taste either but each to their own. ;)
Mine was more of a tan colour and not to my liking at all.

Cheers mate. I guess it is each to their own, and life would be real boring if we all had the same ideas and the same looking bikes. :):)

one of my brothers had one of these back in the day, I always thought the brown seat worked with the brown paint. the bikes had mechanical problems but looked good imo, nice thumping 500cc twin

I like the brown. I think it looks better on a red twin, but I was considering one on my silver twin anyway. My riding leathers are all black so that is the only thing pushing me towards a black seat.

If anyone is interested in what red Speed Twin looks like with a brown seat I will be posting a picture soon as I have just negotiated a brand new Triumph one on Ebay from my local dealer. Not interested in whether it looks good or not though as I only bought the seat for the base so I could get it customised to one similar to the Thruxton and it will definitely be in black!

Feel free to comment, personally it looks ok-ish with the red but rubbish with the black side panels. Anyway will be gone soon as I can find a box to package it up in.
