started bike yesterday and speedo kept fluctuating between numbers when rode off seemed okay then would do it again when slowing down, then rev counter stopped working,(had only ridden about 2 miles) then slight misfire, half mile further on bike cut out wouldn't start.Recovery called out and mechanic said battery wasn't charging, jump started and rode home (1 mile) with engine management light on.He said possible duff battery/regulator/generator fault.Any ideas bike is 2001 tt 600.thanks.

Deffo sounds electrical to me - check the battery voltage (with a voltmeter) before attempting to start the motor; if you can get the bike started then check it at tickover and then at 4000rpm.

If you can do this, post the results on here.

I would put a fiver on it being regulator/rectifier at fault ;)

charged battery yesterday to 14.4 and tested this morning still 14.4.So my guess is battery is okay.took off the regulator to test this morning with multimeter and got more or less no readings from any of the terminals ( used this as guide ) so my guess this is the problem

I have had this recently. My regulator/rectifier was umm fried!! Therefore the battery wasn't getting enough to charge to compensate for all the electrical gubbins. The battery lost all charge and of course no battery power = no electonics, no electronics means no injectors = no go!! Symptoms were exactly the same as yours.... Riding along when then display staarted to flash on and off and then off altogether, followed by engine light on (slight panic) followed by cutting out (major panic!).

Bought a new regulator/rectifier and battery is charging ok now.

At least in the old carb days you could bump start and still ride ya bike. These days a flat/dead battery you're pretty screwed.

Hope you get it fixed. Look on ebay for M and P. Got mine from there.
