    Hi,

Sorry if this is a basic question but I changed the battery today on my 2013 Bonnie SE and there seems to be an earth wire attached to the negative terminal that doesn't attach to anything else, so it's not grounding against the frame or anything. It's just about 3 inches long and the end of the wire is wrapped in insulating tape and covers what looks like a male bullet connector. The battery was changed at a dealer about 3 years ago so this is the first time I've looked at it. Shouldn't it be earthing against something?

    Thanks

It looks like a previous owner has attached a lead for connecting to something like heated clothing or a battery charger? Is there only one lead and nothing connected to the positive terminal?

Yes, just a 3 inch lead ending in a taped up bullet connector. Nothing other than the positive lead on the positive terminal.
    Cheers

All my vehicles [2 and 4 wheeled] have a whip connected to thier battery for a trickle charger. Could it have been something like that ?...J.D.

I guess that it must be for something like that, though a charger would need to connect to both terminals.

Just figure the positive side was missing or maybe they were taking it off some other point in the system. ...J.D.
