If there is so little faith in the insurance companies to pay out, why buy more than Third Party insurance? If you do that then you avoid any inappropriate expectations of service or honest dealings. Save the money you haven't spent on fully comp. for the day when you need it.

They day I go for third party insurance I just know it would be the next day I wrote the bike off.

But if I had taken your advice 40 years ago I would be quids in.

Why is it sometimes cheaper for fully comprehensive than third party cover? The thieves just get an ear bashing and fine - where the effected are left wondering and worrying about their prized possession. If the thieves get caught - tough justice required.

My comment was not really intended as advice Mick, more a matter of the age old debate of 'risk management'. How much do you spend to insulate yourself from a problem and will it actually 'deliver' in the way you believe it should, when you need it.

I suspect the bottom line of all of this is the drive of competition. We all look for the cheapest quotes but do we always read the details supporting the bottom-line numbers - I know I don't until it's too late.:(:(

Agreed Dave - for example I have newer bought those extended warranties for TV's, Washing machines, Dish washers etc. Primarily because if the blew up outside of the warranty period I could afford to replace them.

the money difference between 3rd party and fully comp is small
If you buy a bike for xxx and on the first ride out the bike is stolen then you get xxx ( or you should)
I under stand depreciation, but you should not have that problem, you are not selling your bike to the insurance, you are being compensated for what you bought being nickked. when they asked how much the bike is worth if you said xx cos thats what you would get if you sold it, they would do you for fraud or pay you x
we are supposed to be dealing with stand up ethical companies not money grabbers who take advantage of the law to screw u
